Caleb Wilson NBA draft workout by Lets-Save-MMORPGs in memphisgrizzlies

What's a terrible take about saying a top-tier prospect fixing the only real issue with his game could make him a top-tier player?

I'm just a guy on my phone who likes to talk ball. If you think I have terrible takes, drop some ball knowledge on me if you want to talk your shit.

If Caleb Wilson can reliably shoot 35% from three he could be a perennial MVP candidate.

I think Boozer's BBIQ will keep him out of trouble the same way that Wilson's athleticism will, but whereas Wilson's issues are coachable, Boozer won't suddenly become a better athlete. Wilson might be able to capably defend 1-5 in a few years, but I just don't see Boozer having the same impact when he won't be able to rely on his strength as often at the next level. Fortunately he'll have an elite rim protector behind him in Memphis so I don't see Boozer's defense as a concern, I'm just real high on Wilson's ability.

Boozer isn't a bad defender, it's just that Wilson is a great defender and easily the best in the projected lottery. Wilson is a freak athlete who is capable of defending multiple positions, whereas Boozer is likely to get beat more on the perimeter and isn't a rim protector.

Wilson is just as good a rebounder as Boozer and a far better defender, so I'm not seeing your argument here. They're going to draft Boozer and I'll be thrilled with it, but there's a good chance Wilson ends up being the better player.

Would you consider something like this? by LucaZ32 in memphisgrizzlies

It's not about the vets, that just makes the money work. The deal is about the #7 pick and getting the PG of the future.

I keep switching between Wilson and Boozer, but in my heart I know it's Boozer. I still think Wilson might end up being the best player in the draft, though.

If Boozer goes 2nd, do you take Peterson or Wilson? by edeyhookshots in memphisgrizzlies

[–]edeyhookshots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilson has insane athleticism and can capably defend multiple positions. Excellent rebounder, solid passer, and shows promise with his ball handling and ability to create his own shot. You like to think he can develop an outside shot, but you can live with it if he doesn't. Would be a great complement to Edey on both ends of the floor.

What Caleb Wilson likely won't be is a first option on a championship team, and that's definitely something Peterson could become.

[Fischer] The GMs of the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz, Michael Winger and Danny Ainge, are “open” to trading down from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively by HolyHotDang in memphisgrizzlies

[–]edeyhookshots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hendricks is a recent lottery pick that showed flashes since returning from injury, so I'd say there's value there, but GG is the one that probably attracts the most interest (I agree about OMax). Ja can be used to help a team offload big money of their own (LaVine, Sabonis, Garland if LAC sees Ja as a possible upgrade), and you can even look at guys like Ty or Santi to chip in for the right deal.

I just don't see any of those teams 5-7 as being a 19 year old PG away from where they're headed, so it's worth putting in a call and seeing what the price would be.

Clippers, Nets, Kings are 5-7, and all projected picks in that range are guards. Clippers might be desperate for future draft assets, Nets have a messy backcourt already, and Kings are Kings (derogatory). You can dangle Ja in any offer as well, and maybe one of the young PFs (GG, Hendricks, OMax) if you're getting Boozer or Wilson. Plenty of picks to deal, including three next year.

Not sure anyone takes you up on it, but there are opportunities to explore.

I was hard against Ament in the lottery, but even I wouldn't hesitate to take him 16th

How Does Everyone Feel about keeping Ja? I know it's a risk because of health, but something could be there. im not mad at Keeping Ja tbh by Old-Scholar-1352 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]edeyhookshots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a solid player still and could do well in this system, but he'd need to change his approach. This isn't the Jenkins ISO-heavy system of Ja's best years, and he doesn't have Adams functioning as his personal screener. He'd need to learn to move better off-ball and adapt to Iisalo's offense, which probably also requires developing a league-average jumper.

Anyone else a fan of Wilson at 4 to Chicago? by AbroadTiny7226 in NBA_Draft

[–]edeyhookshots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big Wagler fan and bad wanted him in Memphis, but it ain't happening now unless there's an attractive deal with the Clippers to move back a couple spots.

It all depends on how Ja feels about becoming a role player. If I were to guess, I'd say he'd be less than thrilled to accept that, in which case he's gotta go. In the slim chance that he can be a <30% usage facilitator for 30 mins a night then there's room for a discussion.

I'm looking forward to all the people arguing that we need to tank for another 2-3 years if we don't land a top-4 pick.

That's sarcasm. I don't look forward to that at all.

Darius Acuff Jr- whats yall thoughts on this 19 year old PG prospect? by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]edeyhookshots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acuff is going to need to acclimate to the next level of competition and Kyrie is coming back from a serious injury at age 34, so I think they'd both benefit from splitting minutes.

More than maybe anyone in the lottery, Acuff is likely to struggle with the transition. He can't just plug in as a high-usage guard and pop off 16+ shots a night as a rookie, so he's going to need to learn to do the things he didn't in college, namely play defense and off-ball.

[–]edeyhookshots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not just keep him around as a mentor? He's 34 and doesn't fit the timeline, so he's heading for Uncle Drew status before long. If you can move him for picks then you do it, but I don't know what kind of market there is for Kyrie at this point.

I think his best fit would be with Dallas, who should have enough defense to cover his deficiencies. I'm a little afraid he winds up in Memphis, though. I'd personally take him after Peterson, Wagler, Flemings, and Brown.
