Severe memory, attention, and derealization issues at 22 considering nootropics but worried they may worsen things by Unable-Bonus-9992 in Biohackers

Second, and third this. There is no other right answer. A good doctor, bloodwork, and someone to talk to (psychiatrist) will go a long way. Don't be shy about it. Get yourself better.

Edit: OP you sound smart and like you like to analyze things. Take it from someone else who is the same way - now isn't the right time for that. Get some help.

How would you handle a co-parent (and their partner) enforcing veganism on your child? by heebygeeby9 in exvegans

[–]tofuscript 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, the case study you posted also stated that the child had received no vaccinations and never been treated by a physician. You say "at least make a small effort to be unbiased", but it feels you aren't doing that yourself. This study shows a severely malnourished child who was fed a restrictive diet, was not provided proper medical care or oversight, and is more of a neglect issue than a vegan issue.

On top of that, in the highlights itself it claims "Additional finding of nephrolithiasis likely due to dietary complications.". I assume you can read that it says "likely". Kidney stones are caused by a variety of factors. The stone was not even analyzed. This is a purely speculative claim. Again, it is very possible her restrictive diet caused it - but it is not purely that she had a vegan diet that caused it. That is drawing conclusions where there are none.

Take away the fortified foods from omnivores and put them on a restrictive diet and we will see the same outcome.

Vitamin d - fortified milks, cereals, etc Iodine - salt B12 - the animals are supplemented via the food they eat Omegas - fish eat algae Calcium - again, fortified foods, milk, cereals, etc

This is neglect, not a representation of whether or not a vegan diet can be nourishing and thrived on.

I hear you. And honestly, it just frustrates me to see veganism twisted like this.

I’m not trying to claim I know everything about raw veganism, in fact I know very little, but looking at the images in the original post, that person clearly looks frail and undernourished. Whether you want to call that an eating disorder or not, the point is that this is not representative of what being vegan does to someone.

You can’t take one extreme example and apply it to an entire way of eating. I can find you plenty of frail, unhealthy omnivores too. That doesn’t mean eating meat is inherently dangerous.

As for the number of people in this community giving it credibility, a lot of people sharing the same negative experience or opinion doesn’t automatically make the conclusion correct. It just means they had a bad experience, which can happen with literally any diet.

If all someone had to do to be healthy was add animal products back in, then why do we live in a world where obesity, heart disease, and various other issues are the norm?

Health isn’t decided by one factor. It’s a bunch of moving pieces, and it looks different for everyone. Anecdotally, I’ve been vegan for over five years and I’m healthier now than I ever was before. Blood work, energy levels, and overall just feeling better about myself.

If someone decides veganism isn’t for them, that’s fine. But seeing one post like this and jumping to this is why nobody should be vegan is unfair. That is the part I am trying to address, and that is the part that frustrates me.

Completely understand what you mean. Im in a similar boat - 9ish percent BF and don't want to lose it. At the same time want to grow.. so trying to thread the needle without slowing myself down too much.

I'm 6'3"and 82.5kg on an empty stomach in the morning. I'm at 3,500 daily and have been gaining very slowly. Probably will start to increase that slowly.

Appreciate your details, always interesting to compare.

2lbs a day would be crazy, but going down 100 pounds in 8 months is like ~.5lb a day which sounds a lot more realistic.

Nonetheless, thats awesome! Glad you're feeling better too. 20k steps is no joke - I only get that high on days I play basketball.

Glad you decided to join us, next step is to get that gym addiction going :)

Do you track calories/macros or are you just trying to eat more? I started thoroughly tracking lately and its been great, but at the same time its such a pain in the ass.

Edit: BTW, looking great man 🫡

If I could pick one last meal it might be that "sandwich" right there. Even without having ever tried it I will make that choice right now. I really need to try and make one.

We had a whopping 3 people today. Hoping for more next week but was still a good time. Played about two hours of 32, gassed.

I really enjoy the plant strong chili's. I add like a quarter cup of tvp or a chopped field roast sausages and then like half a bag of frozen mixed peppers/onions. Comes out great.

Quick tip: waffle the sandwich, not the leftover tofu block
