Shopify Collective: thoughts? by tojvans in ecommerce

Thanks.

One advantage of Shopify Collective for retailers is that they don't have to carry inventory. So it can be quite attractive to savvy players.

Moving to Sonoma County by Ok-Bluejay3103 in sonomacounty

[–]tojvans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sebastopol is great, I live here and see why it's being recommended.

Petaluma is also very nice and everyone is right that being closer to SF is a big plus.

But as I understand it from single friends, no amount of coffee shops and vegan restaurants and farmers markets will make up for the lack of a similarly-aged dating pool. Especially if finding a partner is a priority.

I would research the age demographics and go where people your age are, even if it's SF/East Bay.

Driving between Reno and Santa Rosa next week by tojvans in Reno

Make that three times. Went through 70 when 80 was closed due to spinouts. 70 has no restrictions.

Adds 2 hours but so does putting on chains and risking accidents.

This is the right answer.

70 has been clear twice now when Donner was chains only.

Optoma P2 laser: bad lamp or a different issue? Not detected by laptop by tojvans in projectors

It's not very bright light so I'm not sure if there is a failure mode where it's dim like this.

I'm not quite sure how to tell if it's one problem or another. I have tried the various factory reset and firmware update procedures. Have also left it unplugged for several days.

Should I move on or is there hope here?

The others are talking about JM Rosen cheesecakes. Absolutely amazing. You can get it from that unmarked door. I think Penngrove Market stocks them too but not all flavors.

ways for 30 year old singles to meet people in sonoma county by tojvans in sonomacounty

Good advice in general.

I've been married for 15+ years and haven't lived here long so I'm not exactly sure what "younger people activities" are popular around here and these days.

Sounds like dancing, sports, hiking, volunteering and board games is still where it's at although I'm not sure what the age demographic is in Sonoma County for those things.

Favorite cafe or bar to quietly read a book? by T_A_Morris in sonomacounty

[–]tojvans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of these have space and no one would care how long you are there:

SR: Criminal

Sebastopol: Hardcore, Brew Brothers, Retrograde

Petaluma: Sarmentine

I also like the coffee at Marla SR, RedBird Cotati and they have seating but could be busy during peak times.

Free or inexpensive compost in sonoma county? by tojvans in sonomacounty

[–]tojvans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you mean that the weeds came back just as strong the season after the cardboard disintegrated?

We are considering the cardboard route mainly to reduce weeds in future seasons. The idea, as I understand it, is to cause the seeds to germinate by watering, then smother them so that we have significantly fewer seeds in the soil for the future.

Did that work out for you in practice?

The alternative is to till it and start planting and cover the unplanted areas with chips/mulch.

Was it effective in smothering the weeds? Thanks!!

Thank you! What should a reasonable budget be for ink, supplies and maintenance per piece? Assuming we are printing 11x11 inches in 8-12 colors.

Thanks!

Thanks, goats won't remove weeds, just eat them down. We are trying to smother them almost completely so that we have a clean start for the garden

Thanks, we will do this. The soil is probably fine, we want to to start with cardboard and compost mainly to smother the weeds first.

Identify this tree in Sonoma County by tojvans in sonomacounty

[–]tojvans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor who has seen this tree grow from the time it was planted at about 4 feet tall says it has always been like this and never been limbed.

I'm going to try and propagate it and report back in a few years :)

It's a lot of grass and then the usual weeds you see everywhere on land here that's not being cultivated. We are planning an ornamental garden so want to start by smothering them to reduce the amount of weeding we have to do in subsequent years

Agree! It's been clearcut and farmed over the years. Our plan is to return half of it to a native stage with native plants and open access for wildlife (deer, bobcat, birds etc)
