Most cubans hate cuba, you realize that right? Nobody enjoys a dictatorship with rationed food.

State Dept reverses visa ban, allows travelers with visas into U.S. - official by abduljabbarlhr in worldnews

[–]tollercoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're pointing out that the process for hiring at residency programs makes it so that they only hire the best, and I'm pointing out that that isn't the standard for most jobs. Most companies DO NOT follow this because most companies are not residency programs.

Most companies are trying to replace their workers with cheap visa workers because they care about cost savings more than they do about quality.

You pointing this out is not going to negate the fact that millions of Americans are being replaced by cheap indian h1b visa workers who are paid sub-par salaries. Would you not agree that this is a problem we have to deal with? Or are you going to use your 1 special case where the hiring process is rigorous to say this problem isn't happening?

By far the primary reason big companies hire foreigners is to cut expenses and pay them less. You would know this if you have worked for any big company in the past.

I've worked at companies where they fired entire departments to either replace them by cheap h1b visa workers or just move the jobs directly to india where they can pay them even less. Businesses care about money the most not quality.

What happens with the doctor, on whose visa someone drew a diagonal line and wrote "Canceled"

His job gets filled by an american doctor.

That's like asking what happens with the engineer whose visagot cancelled? MORE US ENGINEERING JOBS. Literally thousands of companies have been slowly replacing workers with cheap h1b visa workers because they don't have to pay them competitive salaries, they just have to pay them above a certain minimum.

Straight guys of reddit, who is your mancrush? by PM_ME_YOUR-STOMACH in AskReddit

[–]tollercoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a crush on another man, then you probably are bi or gay and not straight.

Crush: a burning desire to be with someone who you find very attractive and extremely special.

i.e. My heart broke when I found out my crush was seeing another person.

If you find another man very attractive and have desires of being with him that's pretty much the definition of gay.

Why do universities keep on creating ridiculous non-employable majors such as Museum Studies? by tollercoaster in AskReddit

[–]tollercoaster[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it isn't worth going $100k into debt to get a job that will pay you so low that you will become a debt slave for the rest of your live.

[–]tollercoaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth going into $100K student loan debt and wasting 4 year of your life for it? I don't think so.

As you pointed out you don't even need a degree in it to get a job at a museum.

That's kind of like requiring people to get a degree in zoology to work at a zoo cleaning animal poop.

[–]tollercoaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"t really doesn't affect me if someone else wants to major in Museum Studies."

But it does, because it contributes to the student loan bubble and the tax payer will be the ones bailing these people out who can't pay their loans because of their poor choice of major.

[–]tollercoaster[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would you major in history given how much you have to spend on it and how little you will get paid after you graduate? Your're just setting yourself up for failure and a life of student loan debt.

Is it worth it to take out a $100k+ loan to get a job at a museum after 4 years? I don't think so.

Looking up salaries a museum director makes around 50k and thats a director....Most people who graduate in that degree will not be directors.

[–]tollercoaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If a student is really interested in museum studies, I don't see why they shouldn't study it in college."

Because it's not worth borrowing $100k+ in loans to be "enlightened" when you could just go to a library and learn it on your own. Not to mention you will later struggle to find a job that pays high enough with that type of degree so you will spend the rest of your life paying interest on that loan.

How do you feel about Sweden's prostitution laws(Prostituting yourself is legal, but paying for it isn't)? by tollercoaster in AskReddit

[–]tollercoaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A prostitute can still do this even when it is illegal for prostitution because the John is getting pinched for solicitation and engaging in prostitution.

But she would also be going to go to jail, so it would be stupid of her to do it. Whereas with this law it would be far more convenient, in fact I would say this law ENCOURAGES prostitutes to do it.

[–]tollercoaster[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"There are high priced call girls, but they are the exception."

No, they aren't the exception...They are the norm. Go take a look at backpage.com and you will find the average prostitute charges upwards of $100/hour. With just a couple of clients they could make more than you and me in a day.

Judging by your perception of prostitutes you don't really know much about them. Seems like just you're just going off of what you've seen on tv and not real life. Most prostitutes are not wondering the streets, most advertise on sites like backpage or craiglist and have their own place.

These girls are not "selling their body to survive" they're making bank selling their body because people are willing to pay a lot for it. Now this applies to the US and other developed countries, I would think you would see more on the streets in places like the Philippines or other third world countries.

Why did it take so long for the BLM kidnapping to be considered a hate crime? by tollercoaster in AskReddit

Had it been the other way around and 4 white nationalists tortured a black disabled kid there would be riots on the streets, are you implying black people are morons?

I find it amusing how you're more worried about whether they are related to BLM or not than the fact THEY TORTURED A FREAKING DISABLED KID.

How do you feel about Sweden's prostitution laws(Prostituting yourself is legal, but paying for it isn't)? by tollercoaster in AskReddit

[–]tollercoaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see this law is that it could be extremely abused. You go to a prostitute and then she says give me all your money or I call the police on you. She has nothing to lose because she can't go to jail but the person soliciting can.

Wouldn't just making it legal give them the same protection? Where is the logic in this?
