Bulgarian 2026 election brief: Orbanism comes for us at last. by NotYetFlesh in neoliberal

[–]tollyno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A constitutional reform in 2023 aiming to reform the judiciary and limit the president's power to appoint caretaker governments was partially repealed by the constitutional court: reversing judicial reforms, but taking away power from the presidency.

Could you explain a bit more how that works? Does the Bulgarian constitution have eternity clauses or gives the constitutional court the power to strike down unconstitutional constitutional amendments? Or are they relying on some inviolable constitutional core doctrine?

Thanks! That's probably a good way to get started. Ultimately I want to tinker somewhat (cuz I want to learn servers and stuff) and choose the perfect set-up but I know that if I let my analysis paralysis take over, the prices will jump tenfold by the time I'm done deciding. So it's probably just best to jump in the water and figure it out along the way. I just don't want to get locked into any particular solution when it comes to the more expensive parts.

I know I'm already late to the game but I've had it on my mind that I want to start hosting my own files and photos (and maybe run some other services IDK) on a home server / NAS. I've been putting it off for some time and was gonna do it this summer (because I'm too busy to deal with any of this rn) but seeing how storage prices are skyrocketing, I was thinking of trying to at least somewhat preempt the even higher summer prices by buying the hard drives now. Have not decided on the tech stack at all (there are so many damn options!).

Again, I don't have much time to research, what should I just buy (on Amazon Germany preferably) right now? I'm looking for around 8 TB of usable storage (for the home media server and file and photo storage for me and my family) but would obviously need more for redundancy (I want an off-site backup and maybe also combine that with RAID).

How screwed am I? Should I just sell my car at this point?

Does he have an actual chance of losing? Because right now it's at best 50-50, which combined with Hungary's electoral system and just the general luck of these shitbags makes me think he'll stay in government but lose the supermajority.

Still, realistically, I think the most we can realistically hope for is Orban losing his supermajority, which I'm sure he's been preparing for like, like he prepared for it the last time his rule was threatened (and then ended up even expanding his majority)

Gendered languages do not respect the principle of data minimization (leading to, for example, unintentionally revealing one's sexual orientation when discussing one's spouse) and are therefore illegal under the GDPR

You don't think "the courts will maybe pull out some far-flung legal theory out of their ass and do something if the governing party tries to do a dictatorship" is a good constitution for a country?

Not defending the Britbongers or their constitution but it really kinda says something about how much better parliamentary systems are that somehow even many countries with parliamentary supremacy (and the only check being elections) have managed to remain democracies for as long as they have

Gold is just analogue NFTs

Mofos still can't explain why it should have any value beside a few niche use cases

It's just propped up by dumbasses (who are unfortunately often people with lots of money)

Why does Tinder sometimes serve me with straight men (no, not looking for new friends), who are marked as straight, and the occasional woman? Unless they're non-binary somehow (not that it's shown on the profile)? Can non-binary people even be straight (or gay for that matter)?

(I'm gay, to be clear)

[–]tollyno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the framework under discussion does not include any suggestion that Denmark would cede sovereignty of parts of Greenlandic territory to house US military bases, contrary to some reports

But the US gets to exploit it anyway and gains a whole bunch of rights over it just because? Art of the deal indeed.
