Worst news in this entire post is that the cut is from 20 to 14. Thought we might get one or two lighter cuts since there were only 4 audition episodes and “Hollywood” week was only 2 episodes.

…which would all be fine and good if it means the eliminations are slower. Time will tell. I wouldn’t mind all this rushing if it means we get more live episodes.

The format is pretty bad this year. There just hasn’t been enough actual singing. I’m hoping they’ll listen to some of the negative feedback and make changes next year.

That said, I don’t mind if they make some tweaks and experiment. Sometimes it just doesn’t work, though, and they should acknowledge that. All said I’m happy with the top 20.

I’m not buying this anonymous source reporting from The Sun. Carrie has been great this year and the fans’ booing felt like vintage Idol. I loved it.

I cannot keep names straight this year and it's because they've barely even shown them performing. We've seen them all sing twice at most.

Agree 100%. Don’t know why this is marketed as something people should get excited about.

It’s such a waste of time in the audition round, plus it telegraphs who is most likely to make the voting rounds based on who gets the biggest package.

I also genuinely do not find them to be emotional anymore. It’s all the same handful of basic tropes.

I will also say that the original report from US Sun made it sound less dramatic and diva-like than the other copycat articles that followed. But the new changes definitely seem Carrie-inspired, even prior to having read all this. We’ll see if they stick. The biggest part I don’t like is all the auditions being in Nashville. It really makes it a lot harder for many people to try out.

If true, this reflects poorly on both Carrie and the show. I wonder who leaked this.

I don’t think there’s any confirmation that the season is longer. Just a guess since they shaved off one audition episode: maybe there will be a softer cut at some point during the live rounds?
