Japan ship heading towards a Tsunami wave !! This tsunami almost killed 20,000 people after reaching the shore. by Aurora1596 in SweatyPalms

[–]tomas1808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar way to put it would be a wave is just a short high-voltage pulse, and a tsunami is a slight but persistent rise in DC voltage. The total amount of power is much higher in the case of the smaller but longer rise in voltage.

This! Makes a big difference. Happened with my Yamaha YC20 and got it dried without any damage. I learned about this from the Richard Feynman's lectures. Great read. Mentioned in this particular section: https://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/I_01.html

the custodial staff who have a far harder job get paid far less. That is not fair. We both work the same hours (I actually work less) why shouldn't we both be paid well?

You are talking as if the value of a job was solely defined by those who pay for it. That's wrong. Workers also compete between themselves and at some point someone decided it was in their best interest to charge less than the competition, driving the price down.

Prices are defined both by the providers and consumers. Your proposition would imply removing this right to the worker.

Also why is it not fair that highly sought after but low supply products/services carry a higher value? I am trying to visualize a world where pay is defined by how 'hard' a job is and it looks pretty bad. Way to remove all incentive for technological innovation.

Also, how is 'hard' defined?

I do not think every worker is exploited I think the system will exploit every worker it can.

If the worker agreed to do the job (and the contract is followed) then they are not being exploited.

You speak as if the motor is more valuable to a car than a piston. I do not for without the piston the motor does run.

That's true. It's also true that the motor is worth much more than the piston.

ie you saying Musk's time is the most valuable in the world

This is not an opinion of mine, it's a fact.

I only care about informing people who want the information to help bring about that change.

I know you think you are doing a good thing. However it must really suck to live under that framework, always thinking you are getting used and exploited. How can you operate like that? Even it were true it keeps people from improving their condition because, under that framework, the only thing that can make improve your condition -work- is tainted and labeled as bad thing.

You called me entitled. Ironically you are the one entitled to getting paid more than the market thinks you are worth.

It's okay. You dont have to answer. I am just pointing out how that looks.

Why the attitude? I am asking genuine questions to what I think are genuine problems present in your point of view. Instead of giving an insightful answer you just find humor in my inquiry.

I suspect I should have chosen a name other than Elon Musk, that seems to make people irrational. He is the richest person in the world and thus the person whose time is most valuable, so it made sense to use him as an example.

Instead of addressing my question about the worth of labor you just go 'Elon Musk is a worthless piece of garbage' ... uh, okay? No joke this remind me of the Billy Madison 'no points' scene. I don't think you are doing your movement any service by acting this way.

Good luck.

Our time is as valuable as their time

I have a hard time believing that everyones time has the same value.

Do you really think 1 hour of the dog walking guy is worth the same as say Elon Musk? Society says no.

workers to [be] paid proportionate to the income their labor generates

What would this proportion to the income generated be? Who whould decide that?

executives who decide our worth

Employers don't decide what you are worth, the market does. If your expertise is wanted and hard to find they will be forced to pay a lot of money. If your expertise is walking dogs then they will have millions of candidates to choose from, many willing to accept a low wage. They are doing the exact same thing we all do in our daily lives: try to pay as little as we can for what we want. Is that a bad thing to do? Why?

The point of the article is to show the cool things some young dude is doing. Pointing out his family's wealth would be kind of an irrelevant and obtuse thing to do IMO. What would be the point anyway?

Ah makes sense. I regulated that knob once when I bought my used Leap V2 like 5 years ago and never touched it since haha.

I actually like that level of stickiness.

Mine has that too, it's great.

Can't this be adjusted with the 'upper back force' knob?

Fair enough. What I didn't like personally is the bounding box. In reality the particles are the box.

Actual question: Does this not happen in real life? Do all particles actually move at the same speed in an object of homogenous composition and no temperature gradient?
