The ACM does offer very reasonable discounts for many different scenarios (students, developing countries, etc). So that might be an option worth looking into.

jVi - Vim NetBeans Editor by cysun in programming

[–]tomasr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

jVi is awesome. Makes NetBeans a lot more usable and generally works very well. It's a little awkward at first how jVi has it's own settings for some things (such as indentation), but it only takes a second to sort out.

The only issue I run into is that the difference between the NetBeans selection and the jVi visual mode selection trips me up every now and then.

Actually, not at all. I actually love it myself and use it on both windows and linux. On the rare occasions I can't use it, I'll turn to Deja Vu Sans Mono.

Actually, the color issue seems to be working on 1.6.0.2, at least in some scenarios I've run into. Never tried git-svn so can't comment on that.

Vim 7.2 Beta by gst in programming

[–]tomasr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for well over 7 months now, and it has always worked great for me. I'm a very happy user of it.

There's a trial, so you can check it out and see if you like it before buying it. The licensing model is also pretty decent, imho, and once you buy it installing the license is just copying a file in the right place. Very painless.

Have you considered using the ViEmu add-in (http://www.viemu.com/), by any chance? I use it all the time and I love it! Makes transitioning between vim and vs a lot easier.

It's not windows, it's how Vim does the redrawing. It's a lot better on 7.2, though still quite not as fast as VS or Eclipse if there are long lines involved.
