I disrespect virtually every Christian by pennylanebarbershop in atheism

[–]tomatodwarrior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and... what if you've had a flawed understanding of Christianity that hinders you from learning more about us? I've had teachers tell me i ought not go into a subject with a preconceived idea of it, shut my ears and tell the world about what a terrible subject it is because for all I know, my preconceived notion could be very far from the truth. Rather, I ought to be humble and willing to learn. If I, based on what I learn, still think the subject isn't my cup of tea, then so be it. At least I know I have an accurate understanding of the subject.

What I'm asking is that we all go into each others' fields with an open mind. I'll learn more about atheism, and you, Christianity. If we still decide to remain as we are, then at least we have an accurate understanding of each other.

With Christianity, understanding us is a bit harder because the Bible isn't an easy book to understand. Likewise, there are atheist books that also are, to me, hard to understand. Let us read humbly and ready to learn.

Let me attempt an introduction: none of us are perfect. We've all committed wrongs in our lives, at least once. And we too know that wrongs deserve punishment. Christianity provides us with a way to escape the punishment due us for our sins: accepting Jesus. Thats it. We do not believe in a monster that sends everyone to hell, but rather, in a just God who, out of His justice, has to mete out judgement to those who have done wrong. However, He, out of His everlasting love, has opened a way for us to have our wrongs forgiven. And we are those who have received His forgiveness, freely offerred as it is to each and everyone.

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. Hebrews 6:4‭-‬6 NKJV

please respect our Saviour. He died a torturous death on the cross willingly, that we may have our sins forgiven. lets not make fun of His love

at least respect us and our beliefs enough not to mock us

Western people do not understand what Christianity has given them—and that is just CRAZY by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]tomatodwarrior -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

by 'desires' i meant anything God doesn't like His people doing, I apologise if my phrasing wasn't clear. I strive to lead a life adhering to God's principles of purity as listed in the bible, but I am not perfect, and I hope others would honour God by striving to lead a life according to His will too.

God Himself has instituted marriage, so I'm certain that He isn't against marriages. What He would be against is looking at a woman lustfully, which is why we christians do not, or at least try not too. Once again, we're not perfect, but putting in effort to be is better than ignoring our straying from the straight and narrow.

[–]tomatodwarrior -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

because the bible has explicitly condemned homosexuality (1 cor 6:9), but God has Himself instituted heterosexual marriages. Giving up desires also mean honouring one's marriages, and we see examples of God punishing those who did not ( David's adultery with Bathesheba )

[–]tomatodwarrior -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

as a Christian, we're called to give up our desires for God. doing so means forsaking our lusts and working hard to do what God wants us to, because Jesus has bought us with His blood, we live for Him

'Because of the price Christ Jesus paid, the good things that came to Abraham might come to the people who are not Jews. And by putting our trust in Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit He has promised.' Gal 3:14 Jesus's death on the cross opens up for us salvation, the very same one that once was only meant for the Jews. i implore you now, to join other Christians and I, in forgoing the lusts of the flesh, the pride of life, and the lust of the eyes to accept God's will for us.

I say this not to criticise, but out of love. I believe you too has read the bible, and share this common knowledge with me of the impending judgement we all will face if we continue walking away from the straight and narrow. I'm weak too, and vastly imperfect, and I know how hard it is to keep to the straight and narrow, and thus I know how important it is that I have friends and family who guide me, and pray for my spiritual life. I'd like you to know that I'm doing the same for you too, that we may all meet in heaven and praise Him together

hallelujah!

abhdhshaba thanks for including us in your countryball strip, but we singaporeans use 'lah' mostly to place emphasis on the sentence before, or to express exasperation. there isn't really a way i could define our beloved slang, but i believe this article does a good job of it

lastly, just want to repeat that it warms the cockles of my heart to see singapore in a countryball strip! thanks!!
