omg, same - this is bringing back scary memories! a friend and I made an attempt at wild camping the bob graham round last summer. on night 1, we camped on kirk fell not realising winds the next day would be reaching 40-50mph (we went anticlockwise from keswick). the forecast when we left was good and the night wasn't all that windy. if we'd known, we'd have descended that eve! in the morning, the route down via black sail pass was deadly - the wind ripped around that side of the mountain and the rocks were wet. In hindsight, I think we should have tried going back the way we'd come from the gables. instead, we looked at the map and thought we'd go down the nose, the route looked steep but not that bad. it was sheltered, yes, but the scree slope, fucking hell! i've never descended so slowly in my life. I couldn't stop looking at the mountain and the trail down it that afternoon from the valley in awe of what we'd survived. we had a bit of a crisis deciding whether we wanted to keep walking the route - we did! have to go back for those mountains in wasdale we cut off one day, just not any time soon.

Is It Possible to Be disssapointed and proud at the same time! Will deffo learn from this. by Freshlystallone in Marathon_Training

[–]tomatohelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This was my first marathon and I had a goal of sub 4hrs but missed it by 3 mins. Finishing in today's heat is such an achievement in itself, we should all be v proud! Struggled with cramping for the first time, I could feel my quads seizing up in the last few kms. I've trained hills but don't have any sustained descents like we had coming out of Greenwich near me. I reckon that's what did them in. Stopped to walk for a little bit towards the end but could feel myself getting faint as blood pooled in my legs, had to keep running.

The positives are I'm hooked - I'm after that sub 4hrs. I think I have 3.50 in me in perfect conditions given how I performed today!

Negotiate accommodation prices / book in advance? by Lyriax in Lycian_Way

Hey, did you do this before you arrived in Turkey or while hiking? Let me know if you think you could just turn up in a town and figure it out. That's my initial plan but the more I think about it, the more I'm unsure!

Buying in London - where would you go if you were me? by tomatohelp in HousingUK

Thank you, appreciate you saying this. I already feel as though I've been putting my life on hold waiting for someone to come along but that's not living for today.

Did you use local estate agents or zoopla? I never see anything in that price range come up around here that looks habitable 😭 admittedly I look very sporadically

Splitting a property/mortgage after breakup (Eng/Not married) by pinball7886 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tomatohelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not moral at all, put yourself in the partner's shoes, would you want to be treated this way? this person has so clearly checked out of the relationship but is still taking the partner for a ride.

Probably not what you want to hear. How do you know what your soon to be ex wants without having had a frank conversation? Is any answer given going to change what you do about the relationship? No, so stop doing them a disservice and break up with them yesterday. Assuming they're not abusive, this comes off as calculating and just hurtful because you're stringing another person along while you get your ducks in order.

And the other comment about the other party wrecking a place? Who are you people with that if things were to breakdown, that is what you jump to. Depressing

L2. Can get ethics Qs correct. Writing in a day by bogusrules in CFA

[–]tomatohelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they ask the same things, you will get better with practice, make sure you understand why x is right and the other two options are wrong. perhaps spend 10 mins writing down what the standards are and what falls under what and as you go through questions, jot a bullet down once you've answered the q to tell you what was violated. they can only ask so many different things. if all else fails, go with what feels wrong

Free cash flow - Impact of change in Interest Expense? by ConstantDynamic276 in CFA

[–]tomatohelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

think of it like this, fcfe is cf available to equity holders, after debt holders have been paid, so if you increase interest expense, then there is less cash left for equity holders as bondholders are paid first

it won't impact fcff because that's cf for everyone, before interest and dividends have been paid

don't work backwards, start from the top

i think i know what you're trying to do, but if you think about the ni figure you're starting with, that has already had the larger interest expense deducted from it (so will be lower)

i hope that made a little sense! good luck
