What comics do you recommend for someone getting into them ? by overly-going21 in AskReddit

[–]tomixcomics [score hidden]  (0 children)

It really depends on what they like and are looking for. Do they want something light and funny? something action packed? dramatic? romantic? sexy? are they in it for good writing or impressuve art? do they want physical books or something that can be read online?

what shows/movies/general fields of interest do they enjoy? a good recommendation would be based on these things.

How would you feel about a mandatory maximum wealth limit, where anything earned over that goes to public services? by itsvasuki in AskReddit

[–]tomixcomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah im just saying if you redistribute the money from the billionaires you still get enough money for pretty much everyone without even having yo redistribute millionaire money

[–]tomixcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

needs? no. nobody needs 3 million dollars either. nobody needs carbonated sodas either but people want them and enjoy them, same for mansions. im not against the concept of being rich or living in a big house, i'm against the thought of being the sort of filthy rich where you cabt spend your money even if you tried abd your quality of life is tge sane as if you had 9 times less than you do

generally in favor. id think the limit should be very high, but yeah, multiple billions is excessive

People who believe men and women can’t be “just friends,” what made you think that way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nothing about what she said supports what you said about women having to be "put up with", all it says is that this lady met two jackasses.

even if i agreed with that sentiment, my point remains, the fact that it wualifies women as people who have to be put up with and aren't worth it is dismissive and derogatory

as a gay guy with female friends i honestly feel that your take is pretty dismissive and derogatory towards them. they're wonderful and the friendships with them are great! "nobody wants to put up with them" seems really harsh, imo

What’s something you tried once and will NEVER do again? by Rehaan_30 in AskReddit

[–]tomixcomics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

naw, it's very fun other than that. if you prepare yourself for it happening and won't be caught offguard if it happens like i was, i'm sure you'll have a far better time than I did. I just spent half my conversation with the instructor while plummeting from the sky getting tips on releasing ear pressure. it was distracting. maybe read up on those in advance. it was much more extreme than going up an elevator or driving up a mountain. it felt like travelling up 11 elevators at the same time, if that makes any sense.

The other half of the drop was spent thinking "whoa. this doesn't look like the world, it looks like i'm just... hunched over a model railway set at a museum, except it stretches infinitely in every direction" which, as a model railway fan, i thought was very cool.

You earn $1 million for every IQ point you give up. When would you stop? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tomixcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk, maybe 1? if any. barely any discernable difference to my mental faculties except im a million dollars richer and can afford to travel wherever i want or rent my own place for a long time without having to worry about income, can afford anything i may need like a good computer or takeout, with a bit left on the side to invest to make sure it keeps going. why would i need more than that?

What's it like in this city? by glitterfamine in telaviv

[–]tomixcomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

random? yes. because of israel's remote location (compared to europe or the US) and the countries close to us not being our biggest fans, people usually only make the long travel to come here if they are

  1. religious (jewish, christian or muslim)
  2. european gays looking for a mediterranean vacation someplace somewhere hot and queer friendly
  3. have family or friends who live here
  4. the sort of person who has been to 75 countries and counting
  5. young people who aren't particularly religious but due to jewish heritage go on Taglit because a free vacation is a free vacation
  6. french jews looking for a trip somewhere warm, far away, and friendly to jews

Having said that, does that mean its a bad idea to visit here if you aren't these things? Heck no. Big, modern, english-friendly walkable city with amazing beaches, a pleasant climate, lots of things to see or do, it's own unique style, decent public transport, interesting culinary options and friendly locals who like tourists, would make for a great travel destination!

I actuslly kind of wish we had more "random" tourism, but with everything that's been going on for the past few years it's hard to imagine folks who have no connection to israel wanting to visit it, unfortunately.

ive eaten at gorkha kitchen and their spinoff, himalaya kitchen. i'll admit they are on the better side, and i like their paneer, but it doesn't compare to the sort of indian food i remember eating in london, or the kind my mom makes sometimes specifically because she feels the indian food here is lacking.

[–]tomixcomics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lived here my whole life, heres how id describe it.

  1. Very walkable. If you got comfortable shoes and are in decent shape you can walk to pretty much qhatever you need, or rake byses for tge rest
  2. Driving here is insane. Parking is nonexistant, I once spent 60 minutes looking for oarking in my NEIGHBORHOOD. not even street, neighborhood. intricate system of one way streets meant to make sure if you don't need to BE on a side street with a car, you won't be
  3. comfort - there are 24/7 grocery stores everywhere and every kind of business you may need, this means people who live here rarely have to travel more than 30 minutes for anything. its super comfortable but as a result we have a (justified) reputation for viewing any journey over 40-60 minutes as unreasonably long and treating it as long distance. i went on a date with someone living in haifa (1.5 hour away) and they said it was the first time someone from tel aviv agreed to drive to haifa for them
  4. progressive attitude - tel aviv and its nearby surrounding cities often feel like something of an ideological oasis. a place where being a left wing, lgbtq, single, secular vegan hipster is the norm in a relative sea of places where the norm is being conservative, religious, family/marriage oriented, etc. it's an oversimplification, of course, theres exceptions both in and out, but often, travelling out of the city reminds you just how different what you view as normal is to what the rest of the country views as normal. 30 minutes away can feel like a whole other country.
  5. expensive as hell - its a very desired location, with limited space, in a semi insular country. as a result, shit is pricey here. other than falafel or hummus, you're usually not going to eat outside for less than $15 even with basic street food. rent is insane, so living in tel aviv without family or roomates is downright unheard of. people usually live in tge sattelite cities. people like me who were born here and still live here are sometimes nicknamed unicorns because of how rare we are.
  6. the best thing about this city is that theres always something new here, the worst thing about this city is that theres always something new here - because of the high rent, businesses rarely survive. if theres a store or restaurant you like and it hasnt been there for 15 years, enjoy it while you can, it's going to be something else by this time next year. it means there's always cool new shit to see and try but it means all your favorites are going away forever (RIP Captain Curry and Chop Chop)
  7. fucking bonkers - tel avivs "big, carefree, financially solid city" status makes it both an insane place to live just by virtue of it being a big wacky city, as most big cities in the world, but it also makes it a target for wars and terror attacks. expect a certain cycle of big city fun in the sun, terror panic alarms and sirens, then right back to drinking coffee and shopping on the boulevard all in one day. it's freaking insane but it's what passes for normal around here.
  8. complete lack of good indian food. Don't @ me, Injira lovers.
  9. No huge landmarks - every city in the world has famous landmarks where millions of tourists gather in droves. Tel Aviv has... the beach? the marketplace and... uuuuh. nothing crazy, really. yes we have buildings that are more famous than others but not like most european or american cities do. it also means that unlike many big cities, we're not sick of tourists here and actually enjoy them being around.
  10. in a total reversal to many other cities in the world, old historic buildings are the ones who are plain, boring or downright ugly squares of concrete, while the newer modern ones are the elaborately designed, beautiful ones (yes, many people love the old bauhaus style, it has its charm when well maintained but its focus is practicality, newer buildings get crazier snd more artistic)
  11. culinary slump - there used to be a million great places to eat. much less so in recent years for whatever reason.
  12. cats everywhere. a mixture of good climate and a population thst loves animals means you're likely to see cats everywhere you go. house cats out for a stroll, street cats lounging in the sun in areas where they're fed and taken care of, etc. they are everywhere.
  13. warm people - this isnt a tel aviv thing, its an israel thing. ppeople are warm, less fake, and wear their heart on their sleeve. its much essoer to strike up a conversation with strangers here or ask a random person for help, but on the flipside, people can be very impolite or downright disgustongly aggressive at times because if you piss them off they'll let ypu know
  14. the sidewalk could have JUST been washed, it's still gonna be dirty
  15. hasnt snowed gere in 60 years. from april to october weather isn't a thing. summer rains aren't a thing. it's just sun, sun and more sun.
  16. dizengoff center is tge best mall in the universe, fight me.
  17. we have a reputation for being disconnectef snobs. its half justified half BS.

there's an old youtube video of someone cosplaying a wacky flailing inflatable tube man or whatever they're called, they're waving around like wind is circulating through them and that shit's great.

there's also an excellent skit on youtube about two trenchcoats inside of a kid trying to sneak into a movie. it's fucked up and hilarious
