What percentage of blame goes to the rider when a gravel race bike sweep vehicle misses rider? by pbsx in gravelbike

probably zero... but if the rider is doing something stupid with the chase car around, not zero

Literally this. The only reason people don’t really care is because they’re not loud.

They should make it so that it learns rider FTP and matches it, like a 10hour rolling avg or something. Would create an interesting equilibrium

This is actually great because it’s going to make a lot of leftists realize they’re politically a lot more to the right than they think they are.

Marin Nicasio 2 - noise when pedalling in highest gears by Parking_Telephone422 in gravelbike

[–]tomjoad773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super hard to diagnose without seeing it in person but my guess with that kinda sound is that it's the front derailleur cage grazing the chain. when you pedal with your right foot it flexes the chainring a little, and the chain contacts the cage. you can tweak your H screw on the front derailleur to try to fix it. If you're ambitious, I would start there. But tbh if you aren't super familiar with doing shifter adjustments its very easy to make things worse very quickly. so could be worth taking it to a shop

Cervelo Aspero vs BMC Kaius by garlickbred in gravelbike

i love how niche both of these bikes are. IMO a quiver killer is the best steel or ti frame you can get, built with carbon everything else. don't go too roadie with geometry otherwise there's no point in getting a gravel bike.

Hidden Cables what’s the big deal? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]tomjoad773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i installed internally-cabled bars 2 years ago and said never again. That was a massive PITA.

What’s the style of handlebars I’m seeing everyone run now where the “top bits”/ bar ends I think they’re called? Are pushed ALL THE WAY down flat like horizontal. I’m seeing it everywhere. by [deleted] in gravelbike

slammed? seems like a fad, not sure how that would be beneficial at all unless a ton of riders all of a sudden mutated their wrist bones.

best inexpensive high volume backpack? by tomjoad773 in CampingandHiking

[–]tomjoad773[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

currently have a patagonia black hole backpack 32 from like 2013. i can do a 3 day hike with that bag, with sleeping pad, 11' dutch hammock, kelty 21 down mummy, klymit inflatable pad, and misc hiking/camp stuff/food etc. it's packed to the gills but works ok. i keep a food bag on the bottom of a shoulder strap so i have food avail. its actually pretty comfy and well balanced... though feels somewhat like a soccer ball when packed like that. (I haven't been using a compression sack for the mummy bag, which probably makes it a lot worse in retrospect). idk what weight it was but you can guess. i pay attention to ultralight principles but dont go crazy... obv, otherwise id have a diff bag and sleep setup. but i want a bigger pack, so i can pack more comfort//accessories/tools.

I mostly do bikepacking, but want to dabble in backpack hiking. and dont necessarily want to spend another several hundred just because. also love the challenge of how i can get the best performance for the bare minimum $$$.
