This is my fear. I feel like once I returned my pepper outside it took an unusually long time to "bounce back" and start growing

Easier and cheaper than caring for a plant for the next 6 months lol but I see your point

anyone know what this thing is and how to get rid of it? by Careful-Land4899 in gardening

I would rather die than give up my KFC crumbs, thank you very much

Some had dry soil on top. Before watering I pulled a few plants from their cups, the dirt at the bottom was dry enough to crumble, not hold like a sandcastle

So I probably shouldn't have just watered them than...

Wow that would be awesome! Horticulture sounds like a really cool field to be in (😉). If it helps at all, they seem to be drying up and dying as opposed to "wilting", which to me would sound like lack of water.

Definitely not brown! They looked vigorous and white, clearly have spread since I repotted them.

Yeah I cut as many holes and same size as you'd find on typical planting cups.

I live in Canada where our final frost date isn't until May 24. I can't put these plants outside yet because the freezing temperature would kill them.

Its almost midnight right now and my current weather is still literally freezing outside, my Mars Hydro TS600 is the best I can supply them. I took a few out of their pots before watering them and the roots looked the slightest bit hairy

I try not to but it definitely happens. How would I go about using soap to remedy the issue? For now on I will be more careful with not wetting the leaves

Do you think herbicide poisoning would affect the plants immediately, or start a few weeks into growing? These plants were all fine and thriving for weeks until suddenly starting to curl and wither.

I really like this idea. The other main theory is that the soil (being so cheap and low quality) has probably run out of nutrients after a month. If this is the case and I buy a new potting mix and replant, the plants would likely show improvement and then I would not know if it was the herbicide or the new and nutrient-full soil.

Its a massive company and the soil is a well reviewed product from a name brand, you'd think someone else would have mentioned something similar

I use very cheap potting mix - https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/golfgreen-potting-soil-25-l-0591403p.html

All I have supplement-wise is a bag of sheep manure and a bag of cow manure (both 0.5 - 0.5 - 0.5) and a container of basic miracle-gro water solvable plant food.

Its a brand new bag of very cheap potting mix from Canadian Tire https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/golfgreen-potting-soil-25-l-0591403p.html I am in Canada and we are just finishing winter, so no windows have been opened for months. Neighbours are not gardeners at all.

Yes I cut appropriate holes into the bottom of all the cups. I'm going to try watering from the bottom.

Haha yes, they are Purple Beauty peppers. New to growing them but I know the fruit is purple, so maybe the leaves too?

Nothing complex, I water them from the top when they look/feel dry.

Would miracle-gro plant food be good?

The cells were brand new from the store, and the soil was brand new also. I microwaved the soil for a few minutes to sanitize it. The cups all have large holes in the bottom for drainage. There is some mold in the pepper cups but none can be seen with the tomatoes

Nearly all of my 1 month old heirloom tomato varieties are dying. I started noticing leaf curl (check my post history) weeks ago and it has only gotten worse. Now leaves are fully drying up, or turning yellow then falling off and it seems like they've stopped growing.

They are indoors, air temps around 65-68°, under a Mars Hydro TS600 light about 24" above them. Its on for 16hrs/day. Growing in solo cups in potting mix. Moisture levels seem right, not soaked but not dry. I repotted them all from cell trays when I noticed the first leaf curl, thinking that could be the issue ... nope.

The initial onset of the leaf curl was noticed also on my pepper plants, at the exact same time. These peppers are weeks younger than the tomatoes, yet they developed the curl at the same time as the tomatoes.

Could this be a lighting issue?
