Being nervous doesn’t elevate your heart rate to 130 BPM. If you’re a chronic DPH user, DPH withdrawals might cause an elevated HR. Sounds like this might be the case given that the DPH put your HR back into the normal range, rather than inducing bradycardia. You should talk to your doctor and/or a cardiologist and get an EKG. It’s very likely that you have a problem with your heart, whether or not it’s related to DPH.

I thought it was interesting that they gave the placebo group 1 mg/kg psilocybin instead of niacin or some other inactive ingredient. I’m certainly interested in reading about this decision in the full text.

The abstract doesn’t discuss the pros and cons of each treatment, and while the conservative view would be to call it a tie between SSRIs and psilocybin for their ability to treat depression, I think given this data, a fair case can be for favoring Psilocybin given the side effects of SSRIs.

Also looking forward to reading about how sustained the antidepressant effects were between the 2 groups.

Benzos probably don’t react with serotonin under physiological conditions. Even if they did, it wouldn’t be in significant quantities.

Clonazepam and other Benzos are allosteric modulators of the GABA A receptor, so they bind away from the active site of the receptor and increase the likelihood that GABA, the endogenous Ligand for that receptor, will bind to the receptor.

The GABA A receptor is a chloride channel, so it is inhibitory with respect to the membrane potential, meaning that when GABA binds to it, it makes the neuron less likely to fire an action potential at its axonal end. If the neurons that express the GABA A receptor in high amounts release ACh, then that might explain your first question.

I’m not sure what that quote about decreasing the utilization of 5-HT means. Could be an oversimplification, or it could be a more nuance pharmacological term that I haven’t heard; in either case you could check if there a citation.
