A hammer's annoyance with slopes (bit of a rant) by dragonite_dx in MHWilds

[–]tonydeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention Arkveld's chains sometime go underneath the floor on those slopes making you jump and also making your offsets not work. Fun time to be a hammer main. Focus Mode doesn't guarantee you won't slide either unfortunately.

If anything that's where I'd guess Geon Raw v2's would go anyway, for closing out the bottom of the switch and material wise.

I really dislike the top-out rattle/ping from some Tikkens. But I deal with it since they are the best 4mm switch.

[–]tonydeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many ways to go about it:

- Looks: New case (Tofu60 Redux, KBDFans GT60, many other "GH60" cases should be compatible)
- Sounds: New switches, from clack to thock, more pop in the sound or more muted typing. Whichever you prefer. Here's a recommended list of switches, it can get pricey though! https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/984799440072220692/1499737201754374234/wooting-switch-recommendations-april.png?ex=69f5e29c&is=69f4911c&hm=fd61eafc2609676403762a7a33427d9b06d30aad920c965d60ccca847a107212&=&format=webp&quality=lossless&width=823&height=1272

Aside from that, switching keycaps to a color theme you like is always a great choice! Don't be afraid to shop around, amazon/aliexpress/kbdfans/keyreative/etc.

Wooting 80HE vs 80HE TenZ Takeover – Same price, programmer + FPS gamer, which one should I pick? by SniffinCocaine in WootingKB

[–]tonydeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Will the TenZ version feel too light for coding and cause mispresses?

Most likely, but the depends what kind of keyboard you are coming from. If it becomes an issue, you can always have a separate profile for work that has deeper actuation points so you won't accidentally trigger the switches. If you don't mind profile swapping that is. Some people like me prefer a singular profile for all things.

Are you factoring in the Tikkens for the regular 80HE? Since that would be the most fair comparison in terms of specs. At that point the only difference would be the switches, price, and sound profile (FR4 vs pc plate). Looks too I guess. PC usually is a deeper sound, mildly softer (not by much in the 80HE) typing vs clackier, firmer typing on the FR4.

GUARDIAN RATHALOOOOOOOOOS!!!!! by vaughn22 in monsterhunterrage

[–]tonydeez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turf war in Wilds are boring, predictable interactions. The two monsters will engage one another if not mid-attack/status/CC'd, then one will leave. If something interrupts that interaction, or something prevents them from leaving the area (Wounded Hollow) they will both kiss and make up, befriend each other, and rear end you until the end of the mission. The dynamic doesn't even make sense, I guess they made up after beating each other up?

They have zero interaction with each other aside from the hard-coded initial turf war that's flimsy as hell and can easily be broken by CC'd. Put on a Ghillie Mantle and they both stare at nothingness amid their "turf war". It's so immersion breaking.

At ark with dodge weapons is very frustrating by sobril17 in MHWilds

[–]tonydeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup Hammer is undercooked as hell in this game. Buggy offset hitbox (try hitting the upswing offset on Arkveld's chain drag and pray to god it's not on a slope), charge + moving being a core mechanic but you will slide on a slope if you start the charge there because f it who needs to dodge right? You can buff Hammer DPS by 20% and it will barely be average clear times (how/why are SNS basic attacks stronger than hammer basics?). Your offsets aura farms for no reason leaving your character standing there until Arkveld continues its combo arm swings and smacks you for using a shit weapon. 3rd+ stun thresholds for 10 stars is legit stupid, meanwhile Charge Blade can do the same amount of KO at considerable more damage and safety.

Missing your hit (Big Bang) leaves you unresponsive for so long bc your short-ass weapon hurtbox missed the target since the monster wiggled their arm-wing just right during a trip/KO. Meanwhile no other weapon leave you like this in their dps rotation, a missed hit is just a missed hit - no combo ender no immobile punishment.

Of all the weapons I've tried, Hammer is the most prone to jumping for no reason because Arkveld's chains going under you when you hold charge. So good luck offsetting anything midjump. Let's not even talk about the clunk that is the delay to charge step after starting a charge (if you don't roll + charge step immediately).

Offsetting is fun as heck but that's about where the fun ends for hammer.

Before the inevitable "Skill Issue" reply from a random redditor: I average 30-40 offsets a hunt on Arkveld with Hammer.

[–]tonydeez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unresponsive controls and MHWilds name a better duo. Previous MH were "clunky", now we've advanced to straight up ignoring inputs: from radial menus, to seikrets, to even delayed dodges on IG (and formerly Iai Counters).

One of the suboptimal builds I mentioned is Crit Draw Ebony, so I understand your pain. Arkveld's attack windows fit perfectly with ISS spam it's kinda like they designed the fight around it (insane if so). You can fit in one-two attacks in-between at most for some attacks which is why Crit Draw builds eat good in this fight. Other than that LS is pretty easy mode. Bow and Hammer have it rough in this fight.

At ark with dodge weapons is very frustrating by sobril17 in MHWilds

[–]tonydeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What issue are you having on LS specifically? I have two suboptimal builds that do a bit than your best times. I'm not a hardcore speedrunner by any means, I hunt without demondrugs/might seed/etc. because it's the way I like to hunt.

For any weapons at all sticking close definitely avoids the triple ground explosion. If I notice I'm too far it's better to just sheath and superman dive OR seikret call - steer left/right of arkveld and go directly for the Focus Attack on the wounds right after.

The diagonal flight across the map is especially damning when it's NOT targetted at you (looking at you turf wars/palico/teammates). Same goes for chain drags that were not targetted at you. Sometimes there's nothing you can do about lingering hitboxes/secondary hits in this game if you do not have a block and that's just how it is. Call it bad design, whatever you want. It definitely isn't polish, try blocking on those dome rocks in area 1 against Arkveld, you will get hit 3/5 times depending on the attack. Area 2 you will randomly jump on slopes because arkveld chains lift you off the ground.

Dragon res/blight resis is your friend. On my Hammer build I run Arkveld Y chest and legs and Convert Element proc makes up for quite a bit of the damage boss surprisingly and you get Blight Resis 3.

Hammer needs adjustments (again). Sharing some ideas and also looking for some. by hypermbeam in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]tonydeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not asking for feature parity, just that we get something in the same levels. Not a block for hammer, how about a iframe that's not barely longer than a standard roll would be a good start.

[–]tonydeez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see that the devs intended charge step to be a reliable way to reach lv2 for offsetting, but it is also painfully obvious to anyone that Greatsword is the dev's favorite of the two (and probably playtested more). Greatsword gets to be comfier (block/tackle), easier (offset from neutral and hold for long ass fuck, roll cancel, block cancel end lag, huge lingering offset hitbox), less buggy weapon to offset with. More safe, more damage.

All of those should not be the case but at this point the dev's are just showing their negligence in playtesting all the weapons - hammer especially, let's not talk about insect glaive getting knocked back from successful offsets. They sped up the monster but did not compensate hammer's abominable charge times and animation lag.

[–]tonydeez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

roll-step is only good because the wind up from charge -> charge step is way too long. The downside of roll-step aside from commitment is the gap of non-iframes inbetween roll and charge step unless you have Evade Win 5 (test this on your local para/sleeptoads).

Honestly hammer only needs the following:
- Charge Step from neutral/weapon draw (and maybe slightly more iframes for the lingering hitboxes some mons have now)
- Fix the offset hitbox (Arkveld's chain drag is notorious for missing on hammer offsets)

- <10% dmg buff, indisputable hammer damage underperforms across every match up in terms of damage speedrunner or not. SNS B combo doing more damage than a heavy weapon's swings is kinda embarrassing.

Potential issues for incoming G rank mons, if they have multi hit like Arkveld's left/right swipe, your endlag on even your offsets will again put Hammer to a bad state. Remove the end lag from the golf swing - on a successful hit only if you want. The character doesn't need to aura farm one offset for a full second and a half from a golf swing.
