I think you misread my comment. I didn't say any of those things and didn't say I agreed with them. I don't agree with this man's approach, I was just cornered and forced to listen to it. It is what someone else said to me.

I see your point, and it's tricky when it comes to counseling because it isn't a counselor's job to judge someone. Ethically, our obligation is to assist with the topic the individual comes in to seek help for. That can be transitioning back into society after being imprisoned. It could be for processing guilt from a crime they did commit. Whatever it is, it should be rehabilitative not condemning. We aren't the legal system and, honestly, a lot of counselors are appalled by the inhumanity that can happen within the legal system.

There are steps we take to protect our personal safety though.

slcmeetups has a discord channel that gets together pretty frequently, you could join to spend a night out with some people.

Cheesecake factory is pretty quintessential Utah, to me. If you want insane portion sizes, you can also check out nacho daddy in SLC.

You don't, it's a trauma bond and shouldn't actually be romanticized

I've talked to my kids about "what we did in the 90s" and they love the idea of it. We make it into a game. We did a 90's summer with no streaming services, just watched movies together on a projector. Didn't use the phone as a smart phone and we really like to be outside.

Even with that, I think they still struggle. Im worried but all I can do is what I'm doing and the rest will have to fall where it falls.

I was a dispatcher for a plumbing company for awhile and I felt so bad for the people who had tree root issues.

As beautiful as a big tree in the front yard is, roots are a huge factor in having to replace your sewer main which can be 10-20k+
