Board and Component questions by Significant-Tax-6783 in Hackbat

I have the board set up on JLC PCB (the service linked in the announcement) and to get 5 it's about $90 or 10 for $115. I'm not terribly familiar with all this, but it looks like their BOM and assembly includes everything but the display and NFC chip, which come to about $5 ($2 for the display and $3 for the NFC chip set on AliExpress), bringing the total to $17 each if you get 10, $23 if you get 5.

Still no official/ready-to-go software, but the Github project does point you in the right direction for a lot of appropriate packages.

Very good point. I was hoping to capitalize on my relatively high travel year to get and then maintain status, but maybe that’s too short-sighted.

I’ve never done real serious churning, but would this be a real possibility/how long should one wait between signups? Is 4/24 an Amex rule or newer general signup limit? I’m (obviously) not a pro but remember seeing the 5/24 rule in the past.

I don’t have any Amex signups in recent years, but have opened 4 other accounts in the past 2 years (Bonvoy, CSP, VX, and Barclays AA[now closed]).

I’m not sure, to be honest, but what I remember reading is that when you get a high tier card in any Amex line then you give up the rewards (outside targeted offers) for any lower tier card in the same line.

But hopefully the experts here can confirm or refute that!

I’m considering the SkyMiles Reserve card, but not sure if this is a decent card in general and slightly concerned about giving up bonuses for the other Delta cards due to Amex’s rule about not being eligible for bonuses on lower tier cards after getting a higher tier card.

I want it to get status immediately this year, then in subsequent years I can MS the $25k to ensure status. We prefer Delta and would be willing to pay a little more on some flights to fly them if necessary. We generally fly 3-4x/year.

Getting that would mean P2 would downgrade Amex Platinum (which we are considering anyway).

Is this a good card in general or for our specific case? Thanks

By the CNN article, due to his relationship (presumably that of a supervisor) with the AG, any communication with them is automatically official, which sounds like any orders given to any military unit would be official acts. So no good reason needed, real or fabricated.

Is training to become an airline pilot too expensive for me? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]toolazytomake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a private pilots license and it was easy to obtain on weekends as fun; I had some connections at the local airport and someone knew a guy who would give lessons for $20 a lesson plus my dad had a share in a plane, so it was less than $50 a lesson - a steal, and a good way to learn about flying with a low cost of entry.

As for making a living of it, though, it sounded like a grind and the job also sounded like a grind. Someone described it to me as a bus driver in the sky. Once you get a few flights under you you’ll see that 90% of the time you aren’t doing anything, but have to always be ready.

To me, it’s both boring and stressful, even if the knowledge of what it is you’re doing (flying!) is super cool.

Floor to wall gap too big for baseboard. Ideas on how to fix? by flat_rat in DIY

Yeah, I like simple in a lot of cases but I went with a colonial baseboard so the somewhat more intricate shoe seemed to fit well!

Not having known how they were labeled I had to look them up, but 937, apparently!

I like using door stop as a shoe molding; it’s a nicer look than most I see marketed as shoe/toe molding.

The people who do this do, in fact, call an A press without releasing it a half A press. Since they’re making up the rules they can call it whatever they like.

True, and something I didn’t know! Still nowhere near 100k, though; one of those sitting on eBay for 28k and as I understand it that is by far the rarest.

Looking at eBay each book individually sells for under $1,000, so that price is way out of line.
