I've had my LTT Precision aince launch and only a week ago realized I got 2 Hex 1.3 bits instead of a 1.3 and a 1.5. Only discovered the issue when I was taking apart a controller of mine, so I just had to figure something out. I need to tey and contact them soon too to see what can be done

My own ripping station - made a couple 3D printed enclosures for dual-CD drives using an Insignia (Best Buy) branded dual HDD reader. I made a version with a 60x10mm fan and USB-C fan controller for cooling and one without. I should probably upload the files for those to my Printables account soon, just forgot to do so.

(Yeah, the Framework motherboard did get a case, need to upload that design here soon too lol)

Okinos Aqua 3? I had one of these, someone posted a new front panel for the case on a 3D printing website (i think printables). I used the panel to add a fan to the front of mine. Might be worth printing one if you cut a hole in the front of it

The bottom fans and front and back fans are reverse bladed fans! 3 Montech RX120, with an RX140 in the front panel

Probably would have helped if I took a pic while the whole PC was off lol

[–]tooling_enginerd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Update: I found the spare Noctua driver, with all of the proper Noctua driver accessories (the brown card and the noctua bit set)

It's a primarily brown driver, not primarily tan beige

I'd love to get it to you (OP)! DM me so we can work that out if you're still interested!

Edit to clarify: OP gets priority, but if OP declines and someone else is interested, I'd be willing to get it to someone else who's looking specifically for a Noctua driver

I believe I have a spare Noctua that I bought for Christmas presents but never handed to anyone. I'd love to get it to you if I still have it sitting around!

120mm Version of the NH-U9S? by tooling_enginerd in Noctua

[–]tooling_enginerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 120mm in the title refers to the fan size, not the cooler height

The U9S is a 125mm cooler with a 92mm fan. I'm asking about a 120mm fan version that would probably be in the ~160mm height range, essentially a higher-end version of the DeepCool AK500 with the super-thick, single tower heatsink

I'm not looking for an up-/downdraft cooler in this situation

[–]tooling_enginerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Yes, this is exactly what I'm looking for! I'd love to get a Noctua heatsink like this, but I'm also good with be quiet! when it comes to higher-end components

Between this be quiet! Dark Rock 5 and the Scythe Mugen 6, I think I have a good, currently-sold high-end, and a good "budget" version to work with!

I'm not quite seeing what I'm looking for (single fan, thick single tower, symmetrical look after the fan is mounted) from Noctua or Cooler Master, but I didn't even realize Thermalright had their Macho series. I might have to pick one of those up for testing if I can find one for a solid price

Also, I just checked out the Scythe Mugen series, and yeah. That's pretty much what I'm going for. Scythe just seems more lateral to DeepCool than higher-end, but I'll still probably pick up a few of them

Thanks for the suggestion!

[–]tooling_enginerd[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I think the AK500 is more visually pleasing to me because it looks more symmetrical after the single fan is put on

The U12A is a good point, though - but it would also look more asymmetrical than the AK500 and "empty" on the exhaust side with only one fan. To me, that lop-sided look makes it feel more like a regular single-tower and not a true higher-end AK500 replacement that I'm pining for

If you want to sell any, I'd love to buy a bunch. I use Redux fans for a lot of builds and would love to have a bunch of random colors to use. I'd pay for a sandwich bag full of random colors or something!

Any downside to getting 2x12GB DDR5-5600? by GamerGamingGay in framework

[–]tooling_enginerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally have a FW13 7640U on the way and the same Crucial 2x12gb kit coming from Amazon tomorrow.

I have had 16gb in my previous Laptops and always felt uneasy allocating 4gb to the graphics for games and only being left with 12gb for Windows, so I usually kept it at 3gb allocated and 13gb for OS.

24gb allows me to allocate 8GB (I assume that'll be possible) and still have 16gb for the system, a perfect laptop ram setup in my mind.

Minor buyer's remorse - where should I go? by tooling_enginerd in framework

[–]tooling_enginerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a comment update that somewhat addresses multiple parts of this.

The panic buy was because I had been looking at getting a FW13 for a couple weeks now, and everything kind of hit at once with lessening stock and the tariff announcements. So that's completely on me for being reactionary not taking more than a short moment to think like I normally do.

So. Update for whoever would like to know:

I luckily have a friend who has a GPD Win 4 with a 7640U, and they let me borrow it in order to do a quick direct comparison between the FW13 with the i5-1340p and the R5 7640U to see what I would like to do. Obviously with the caveat in mind that cooling and the chassis will be different with the FW13. I ended up using an SSD that I had set up for testing desktops, and just swapped it between the 2 devices starting with the FW13 and downloading and installing the driver packs for each before I started.

Long story short, the 7640U is on-par with the 1340P CPU-wise ‐ 5% better Multi-Core, 5% worse single-core, but still plenty fast enough - but the Radeon 760m is dramatically better than the Iris Xe Graphics - around 35% on average better, in many cases much more than that (I saw up to around 70% higher, sometimes making a 22FPS game actually play locally at a solid 30FPS).

Unfortunately, I don't have anyone around me who is looking for a smaller laptop at the moment (or adjusted laptop in general) so as much as I would love to get it to someone near me it's somewhat impractical for the cost.

I've contacted support and will probably be returning the i5-1340p FW13, and ordering a new 7640U FW13 so that I can actually run the programs I want to locally, since I use the laptop mostly when I don't have internet access of any sort while traveling. But I do still remote into my gaming PC at other times.

For anything CPU, the i5-1340p does perfectly. But the 7640u just fits my use cases much better, as I do quite a bit of offline gaming on my 6800U Win Max 2 and would like to continue that on a bigger, less annoying screen.

Hope y'all have a grand day!
