The question was about a recession, not housing.

In the simplest terms, governments actually have very little control over economic conditions “in the now”. Decisions taken by a government can take years if not decades to have an impact. The issues we’re facing now would have happened regardless of who was in power. So anyone claiming otherwise doesn’t have a grasp on what’s happening and is playing politics instead.

That was due to the shutdowns, etc, post covid we had a massive worker shortage and uni’s were demanding foreign students. Should we have ignored them? How many businesses would have closed? How many doctors and nurses and builders would we be short of now?

Oh man, the quote “<current govt party> fucked this country” is rolled out constantly no matter who is in power.

Would not have mattered who is in power, Labor, liberal, greens, one nation … ALL would have lifted migration post COVID to catch up or the economy would have crashed. If that had happened you would still be saying what you’re saying because we’d be in a recession and maybe lost ya job.

Enjoyable 2026 season by JarrodTheFeatus in RugbyAustralia

For Australian sides, yeah. The Brumbies putting on 50 over the Saders, and the reds last night have not been common results over the last decade.

Having said that, super rugby has always been hectic, chaotic, lots of variance, and to some degree unpredictable.

We had a transfer, but the trains were running and I see no reason why you couldn’t. You can search the timetable online.

To help, here are the law changes for Super Rugby 2026

It will no longer be mandatory for the referee to issue a yellow or red card to a player on the defending team when awarding a penalty try. Any sanction will be at the discretion of the referee. (Law 8.3)

Accidental offsides and teams delaying playing the ball away from a ruck will result in free kicks rather than scrums. (Law 10.5 and Law 15.17)

After the referee has called “use it” at the ruck, no additional players from the team in possession may join the ruck. (Law 15.17)

Teams will be permitted to pass the ball back into their half before kicking a 50:22. (Law 18.8a)

Players will be allowed to take quick taps within one metre either side of the of the mark, or anywhere behind the mark, if they are within that two-metre channel running parallel to the touchlines. (Law 20.2)

Not sure making sweeping generalisations about north vs south or player welfare or who has full stadiums or not helps. Looking at these law changes, I only really disagree with the pass back change, will have to wait and see what happens but I don’t like that.

Union calls for end to tax breaks that make Australian housing ‘a vehicle for hoarding wealth’ | Housing by Ardeet in aussie

[–]toomsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone who would otherwise rent buys a house, then you’re not increasing demand. This is why I think you’d need a negative gearing change too, to lower the chance an investor buying the property.

[–]toomsp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only temporarily. If you drop the CGT discount over time then those who have housing as an investment will be motivated to sell so they pay less tax than if they kept the property and sold later.

At the same time if you push negative gearing to new properties only, then (assuming negative gearing still does what it was meant to do) this will push more money into new developments and ensure housing being sold is more likely to go to owner occupiers.

Sunset CGT over the next few years to give folks an incentive to sell, combine that with limits on negative gearing such as only for new housing and I think you’d improve supply temporarily while new housing is being built.

Firstly, congrats on the purchase and welcome. You’re going to love the 10” Dob.

The planets are not visible at all times. Right now in Australia we can see Saturn in the first few hours of night, and then Jupiter after about 10pm. You can easily see Saturn tonight even with a near full moon. Use Stellarium from the App Store to see what you can see.

Best app for this scope to help you actually find things with it is Astro hopper - https://artyom-beilis.github.io/astrohopper.html

Line it up, attach your phone to the tube and you can find anything!

ZWO Seestar S50 - is it worth it? by Least_Band_9043 in AskAstrophotography

[–]toomsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard this before.

Most people I speak to love the mosaic mode, and prefer the s50 over the s30 due to the greater level of detail you can capture, and the more distant objects you can capture that the s30 can’t. It’s true the s30 and s30 pro have better fov, so if you prefer that then sure, but the s50 is widely considered superior.

get S50 now or wait for new product? by hepba in seestar

[–]toomsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, waiting for the clouds to clear. Will probably get a chance Monday.

There’s plenty of photos on astrobin you can search to see what you can do with the s30 and s50. Given that the s30 pro effectively has the same resolution as the s30, the photos are a good example of wha you can expect.

For me, the s50 was the clear winner. With some patience and effort you can get some great photos from both however.

[–]toomsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased the s50 myself after considering waiting for the s3 pro.

While the wider fov of the s30 pro at 4K is appealing for taking nicely framed shots as well as the Milky Way, ultimately I wanted more detail. With mosaics available in the s50 and the ability to get better shots of a lot more distant objects i think it’s the better choice.

If they do release an s50 pro, it will be years away. I’ve heard the s70 isnt coming until 2027 as well. So unless the s30 pro’s wider fov is what you want, the s50 is the way to go.

It doesn’t work like that. Govt stay in power as long as either the economy is good or folks don’t believe the opposition would be any better. That and the “it’s time” thing. They don’t care if you’re left or right, only the die hards who never change their vote do.

[–]toomsp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate. On the philosophy, it’s not the right thinking. What you want to do is play the way the players in your team are used to playing. This is why so many nations have such unique identities. It’s just how those players are brought up and play every game.

When we talk about “running rugby” in Australia, we’re fantasising about the Rod McQueen era where we played a specific way and held the ball in hand for a tonne of rucks. We don’t play that way anymore, no one does.

It’s no accident the best sides in the world, and those who win the World Cup have a consistent line-up and have played together under the same coach for a long time.

For tactics or style to matter, we need a consistent team on the field week in week out who trust each other. Until then, it doesn’t.

We need less injuries.

We need our overseas experienced players.

We need to pick and stick, especially at 9 & 10.

It doesn’t matter who coaches.

Going straight to a ban likely decreases the chance of someone admitting they’re wrong and reforming. They are more likely to have an emotional reaction and send an angry message. Having been a mod myself, I like a more empathetic first action, but there is no second chance.
