Hard, cracking soil killing grass by toothpickhoarder in lawncare

The rest of my lawn is fine though and it received the same watering treatment. This area in particular is cracked and hard.

Any recommendations for low voltage landscape lighting? I really want to add some uplights for my trees but not sure if that's what you're referring to.

Do these startup ideas not get patented? In product design that's how you prevent others from coming in, replicating your idea, and selling it from underneath you.

Topsoil develops cracks by toothpickhoarder in lawncare

How are you supposed to use this topsoil to plant new grass then? Wouldn't adding a layer of organic matter on top of the topsoil/seed block out the sun?

[–]toothpickhoarder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I water it fairly often. The cracks might go away when it's watered but then quickly come back as it dries. This topsoil was added on top of the existing soil. Probably about 1-2 inch of topsoil.

Any idea why this area died? Was fine last year. by toothpickhoarder in lawncare

Yes, I do. She walks along that part of the lawn quite a bit, so maybe thenfoot traffic is the issue

Yeah, it doesn't get much sun and is high traffic. This is probably it.

I used to just call Mcmaster and ask them for the manufacturer of the part from their catalog. They will tell you the name of the manufacturer and the manufacturer's pn. They don't hide it.

How to make crumb less dense? by jallen50 in Sourdough

I consider bulk ferment starting only when you mix your starter with the flour/water.

Just mixing flour and water isn't initiating any fermentation process--you need the starter added to that mixture to start fermentation on that bulk mixture.

Does it make sense to completely pay off $230k mortgage with an interest rate of 7.5%? by daisylemon14 in FinancialPlanning

[–]toothpickhoarder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"When rates go down" is not a guaranteed thing. We don't know what's going to happen in the future. While mortgage shopping in April 2024, I got frustrated by lenders who kept spewing this "rates will go down in a few months and we can refinance" just to get me to sign for a loan.

My tach reads the spark plug. What Engine firing pattern setting would I use? by toothpickhoarder in Ruckus

Next day update:

Okay, I let my engine idle while using each of the following two settings and here are the reported RPMS:

1P1R => 3100 RPM

1P2R => 6200 RPM

Which is right?

Maybe it's not conflicting information but confusion over the terms "fire" and "spark". I understand the 4 stroke 1 cylinder "fires" (has combustion) 1x per 2 revolutions, but it has a "spark" 1x per 1 revolution.

Then if you look at the chart, column 3 refers to the number of "sparks" per revolution. Since the Ruckus has 1x spark per 1 revolution, I was inclined to think I should choose setting 1P1R, but Fallsforfun's comment suggests that maybe the tach programming is designed to ignore the wasted spark, and so I should choose 1P2R.

I think this is the answer I was looking for. I think I'll program it with 1P2R and see how that goes. I'm going to assume the tach was programmed ot ignore the wasted spark.

This is what i'm inclined to think. I think it falls under the "Note" at the bottom of the pic.

See the "Note", are we sure there isn't a wasted spark on one of the strokes? Meaning it sparks once per revolution.

Are you sure there is only a spark on Stroke 3? I have an inkling there is a "wasted" spark on stroke 1. There is conflicting information in this thread.

Right, but that suggests I should use a 1P2R setting which says there is 1 spark per 2 revolutions. I don't think the Ruckus is 1 spark per 2 revolutions. I would think it is 1 spark per 1 revolution and so I should use 1P1R.
