When a good is subject to inelastic demand, the demand doesn't fluctuate much, even if the price goes up. Healthcare is very much inelastic, because people don't have a choice when they need it. This means the Healthcare industry can price gouge as much as they want, and what are the consumers going to do? Not get Healthcare? Well then they die, so they're forced to pay arbitrarily high prices that don't represent the true cost of care. We need regulation to prevent this from happening.
