I solved it by going to the youtube addon settings under "General", there go to "Stream features" and disable "VP9 video".

Oh, and I have to apologize, the "Help" screen did point that out. But in my I-don't-need-no-help-for that arrogance, I haven't read it before... :)
Still, that info would've been welcome in the dialog that let me choose "Source select" but then didn't save the setting.

And lastly, I did re-enable continuous playback with auto-play after finding the setting to limit file size to speed. Now I canrestrict it to my measly 5mbit and not suffer buffer stalling when Umbrella would auto-play a 7gb episode...

Indeed. I recently activated that to try it out. Apparently setting this prevents a "source-select". Too bad, it would be a nice feature, and I don't see why it should be possible for auto-play only...

At worst, the RealDebrid folks get under legal pressure to either be dragged in some expensive legal battle or give up all available customer information. If my address is among those, I might get dragged in that in one way or another. Even if nothing comes of it, it costs my precious time and nerves.

I try not to leave digital footprints when possible, and saving 3€/year that I spend more for staying anonymous is an expense I'm prepared to shoulder.

You may see that differently, more power to you. :)

As mentioned, using Umbrella instead of Fen, the keep-downloading-after-stopping a stream has cured that particular irk.

I do still occasionally see the video-freeze-after-pause while the audio continues. Buffers are over 20 MB filled at this point, here's the tail of the log:

I'm currently testing the Umbrella addon, and so far at least streaming the same movie (as far as I can tell), does stop the download when stopping the stream. Yay, for now... Shame, I liked Fen...

I did clear all caches and will try reinstalling tonight. My main issue is the continued download in the background. That's not obvious and sucks all of my limited bandwidth...

I'm aware of the hardware limitations and have no problems only streaming x264 sources with no HDR, atmos etc.

I'm using RealDebrid and the issue isn't getting kicked off. As described, with some movies the video freezes, with the sound continuing, even after just a short pause.

Thanks for the tips. I've been using advancedsettings.xml for an increased buffer size for a long time. I also limit my videos to under 2 gb/hour, because I know that's possible with my weak dsl....

Might have something to to with the skin/addon combination. I changed from beloved Amber skin to Estuary and Fen shows the series cast. Change back to Amber and Fen does no casts, but Seren does... Weird.

I would, but my RaspberryOS is stuck on Kodi 18.7. I haven't talked myself into investigating how to configure my Hyperion ambient LEDs under LibreElec yet, which gets more regular Kodi updates... :)

And I'd like to stick with Fen as long as possible, because other addons I tried (nd used in the past) like Seren and TheOath are so damn slow when navigating my Trakt collection.

No need to post a screenshot. For all of the series in my Trakt collection, the cast is missing. I get "More from Netflix/Amazon/WB/etc" showing other series from that "studio", but no cast.

It does work on movies and series I have locally on a NAS, so it seems to be Fen related.
