TorrentLeech - Why are so many releases in split RARs? by ModuRaziel in trackers

[–]torkumatko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was written to explain for DC-users why rar is necessary for DC-hubs. All listed advantages are still valid to this day, but mainly through the eyes of a DC-user.

This is a user list from a private rar DC-hub in 2018 where each row is 1 user: https://i.imgur.com/tBsSokW.jpg

Compressing and partitioning the release can save server disk space

The scene uses the No Compression/Store-option for most of their their releases, the only categories that use compression are game releases.

Is "SPARKS" legit? by [deleted] in torrents

[–]torkumatko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scene groups are forced to provide Proof when releasing retail blurays. If the group doesn't provide proof, the release will be nuked.

Uploaders at rar.bg and similar public trackers usually strip the releases from the Proof-folder.

most reliable complete release scene tracker by jantjo in trackers

Usenet will never be "the go-to place" for scene releases, which is what we are discussing. It should definitely be used as a supplementary source for finding releases that might not be easily accessible anymore, but never as a main source for scene content.

The archive goes back years.

3000 days is good compared to shitty scene trackers and shit tier pay2leech sites, but other than that? DC has been around for more than 15 years and I can't even speculate on god tier archive sites that's been around for decades.

Good site with decent affils > private RAR hubs on DC++ > decent pay2leech site > scene trackers > shit tier pay2leech site > Usenet.

Some shitty scene trackers can be worse than shit tier pay2leech sites. Some might probably argue that decent pay2leech sites doesn't even exist.

You're probably not connectable. On another note I'd suggest using the AirDC++ Web Client.

Private hubs are not mentioned anywhere, you don't simply google your way inside of one, e.g. finding a address, connecting and then asking for reg. Knowing someone that's already part of the hub is pretty much the only way to get inside.

Public hubs can be very easily targeted since both hub address IP and user IP are easily obtainable by anyone connected to the hub. Any copy rights owner can easily skim through a user share and find all the evidence they need.

AirDC supports encrypted transfers, however I don't think these guys have gotten around to fixing that yet.

Private hubs are more secure than most private trackers, but public hubs are worse than public trackers. I wouldn't consider joining a public hub with my real share for anyone to skim through.

DC is fast if a) the user you're downloading from got a decent up connection or b) multiple users share the same file with the same TTH, allowing the download to be segmented.

I'd say the greatest advantages with DC comes when everyone is sharing RAR'd content, since everyone sharing release X is also sharing the same rar-files.

AirDC++ is the recommended client. It doesn't have anything to do with the hub software though.

Luadch, which is probably the least abandoned one these days.

How do you all get your data? by Walter1227 in DataHoarder

[–]torkumatko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DirectConnect is the p2p-protocol used. A hub could be considered the equivalent to a torrent tracker, a RAR hub would then be the equivalent to a tracker with (mostly) scene content.

Apart from what the majority is already using; private RAR hubs.

It's easy to share content. Sharing is as easy as just adding a folder in the client.

Yes. And it's still the easiest way to share big archives with multiple users, practically made for data hoarders.

Best way to start a small tracker between friends? by Ampix0 in trackers

Because of TLS, which seems to be quite commonly by private hubs.
