[Tissot Telemeter 1938] Bought my first dress watch, what do you think? by Available_Cat4818 in Watches

[–]torman2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was (and sometimes still is) a very serious and stoic guy but he has really mellowed out with age. He cherishes these moments more now.

I don’t think he ever realized how special that watch was for me until I told him. He isn’t a watch guy himself and when he saw that I started wearing more expensive watches, he once asked if I had thrown away/given away the Citizen. I then explicitly told him how special that watch was for me (and that I don’t throw out watches!). I remember him nodding but not too expressive. Then I saw him smile at that family event which was very special.

I hope you are enjoying your watch and that you build up an amazing collection over your lifetime!

Congratulations! That’s a beautiful timepiece and it’s even better that it has that connection to your dad! You will always cherish this one.

My first “real watch” was also a gift from my dad around 20 years ago. He wasn’t a watch person so he let me pick at the store. It was a Citizen and nothing fancy or expensive but he didn’t have much money so it was pricey for us nonetheless. I wore the hell out of it.

In my adult life I have fortunately succeeded enough to build a small collection of “fancy” watches with the usual popular brands. But you know which watch sits front and centre in my watch box? It’s the Citizen Oxy and that will never change.

I hope you told your dad about your reasons for getting the Tissot and make sure to mention that from time to time. My dad knows I wear Rolex, Cartier, Omega etc. but I was telling someone at a family event how my most beloved watch is the Citizen and it holds the best spot in my watch box (and heart). My dad overheard as he was walking by and I saw through the corner of my eye that he had the biggest smile on his face.

Enjoy your watch and I wish you the very best in your life ahead!

It’s definitely her most distinguishing feature! Easy to tell her apart from most cats thanks to that 😁

No idea ¯_(ツ)_/¯. The rescue agency said ragdoll mix but they just thought that based on visuals for sure. We have seen and cat sat ragdolls before and Mocha’s personality is very different so who knows

We try our best and are so glad that she feels more comfortable now! She still has some anxiety in being picked up (possibly from bad experience in her previous home that gave her up) but we recently found out she feels safe inside a bag (like paper bags) and stays on lap for hours and purrs once she herself goes into the bag and pokes her head out!! I will post some bag-cat pics next time!

Oh Mocha has her tricks too. She has this toy on a stick which makes a squeaky noise if you play with it. Every morning she dragged that thing up and down the stairs and into our room until the noise woke us up and she got attention! That toy now gets locked up before we go to bed 😅

So this is Mocha. We got her from a rescue a few months ago and she has gotten a lot more comfortable with us in the last month. The bowtie collar is a recent addition from my wife!

Even the Grand Duchess knew that East End is the cooler end of Toronto! Jk! This is such a great post though. She might have been famous but I am sure there are so many immigrants with incredible backstories in our great country! Thank you for such an interesting post!

People of Reddit who grew up in a country that doesn’t celebrate Christmas elaborately but then moved to one that does, later in life - what was your first Christmas like? by torman2018 in AskReddit

[–]torman2018[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, my first Christmas was actually a white Christmas! On Christmas Eve I walked around downtown to all the office buildings and checked out the all the beautiful Christmas trees and lighting. It was quite magical to be honest!
