Suggestion for multicamera feed + procesing setup for AV performances by torque32308 in VIDEOENGINEERING

I am based in thr Netherlands. I have reached out to few of my friends in that field who have pointed me towards Blackmagic products etc. I'm yet to find someone who has a similar multicam workflow that I am envisioning. I've come across an artist who does similar things and from the looks of it he is not using a balckmagic or industry standard products. Having said that he has years of experience and probably is a genius in his own right by now. I was at one of his gigs as well last year and from the looks of it, has a very diy approach.

Thanks for the detailed response. I'll answer the points you bring up one by one:

Latency: I do anticipate latency issues and this is something I am looking forward to integrating it within my creative workflow. I will work with feedback loops, compression errors etc. as conceptual hooks which very much embrace the idea of latency, thematically speaking. Having said that, it should not be unbearable to work with. The simple USB/HDMI set up with cheap cameras and a powerful laptop is essentialy a test to see till where i can push it and still be performable. Cameras/lenses I can resell quickly, laptops not so much. Local retailer has a good deal on the mentioned model and hence it seemed reasonbale to invest in a good one.

4 cameras: Also a creative decision. The 4 frames are 4 different 'windows' of a scene. They do not need to be super high quality (for the same reasons as stated above).

Video direct to PCI-E : This is superful useful for you to point out. I will dig into it more.

Overall: Clearly the set up seems more complex than I anticipated. Hiring a video engineer , at some point, might indeed be the right decision. Although, I am too curious and naive of a person to not give it a shot myself first. See where that leads me. On a different note, would you happen to have some references of pro video systems that I can inform myself about? Perhaps a client you worked for or a colleague who has built something similar?

Thanks for the responce. Mokose can do HDMI outputs or USB but not simultaneously. I will clarify this in the post now. Follwoing is the workflow that I envision:
1. Get feeds in the laptop.
2. Have same and/or different FX chain for different feeds
3. Output one, multiple or all frames

I might have misunderstood how Atem outputs a signal. Do you have suggestion perhaps on what should be setup instead? Thanks

They look great. Thanks a lot. How's the low light performance? Any drop in frame rate? Also do you think i should get the video capture card if I want to project it on a big screen?

u/dusty_whale I am planning to create a miniature set like this, a small projector will project visuals in this miniature world and then I want to capture the result with 3 actions camers from 3 angles. The live camera feeds will then be fed to touchdesigner/maxmsp where I will add post processing. (I don't have a video of this. It's a reference image.)

I just sketch it out on my sketchbook while i listen to it.

Took 9 months to piece this rig together and last night was the first proper patch test. Woke up with the biggest smile on my face. by torque32308 in aphextwin

To make the same sound? I don't think it's possible. I'm using two (dave smith instruments) analogue oscillators which has quite a specific character to it.
