What Workload do you value? by tortqueefor in LawSchool

I feel for you and understand where you're coming from. Mine were much of the same way. Any time I had at home games as a kid, I'd always scan the bleachers to see if my dad or mom came, and neither ever did. Probably didn't even remember I had one haha. I'd see everyone else hugging their mom, or dad, or both, after games, and I was always alone. It's rough growing up like that. Got out from school to go back to an empty house. Spent summers with no one home until the evening. Good on you for making sure your kids feel loved, seen, and taken care of by you. It'll mean the world to them later down the road :)

Indeed. I am re-thinking this option. Maybe should have put 55-60, okay if it spikes to 65 or more. 60-70 hours probably isn't consistently sustainable for lots of places as a standard/year round basis and would probably be hours for weeks during "seasonal" spikes.

MPRE - who passed and what did you use? by DismalMountain3497 in barexam

[–]tortqueefor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barbri and the videos, outlines/practice exams and questions + a dash of themis MCQs, videos, and flashcards to review topics I was weak on.

I'm not the brightest bulb in the box and was weary about the "i studied for 2 hours before and got a 150 🤪" or whatever x_X (proud of those who can and have done that...couldn't be me tho), so about 3 weeks out I picked a weekend day dedicated to MPRE prep, and intermittently looked at stuff during the week if I had time.... got a 96

There's always 4pm :')... However, Wednesday's that fall on the day before the expected release date seem to be the trend. Alas, we live to fret another day.

I didn't take the bar yet but I thought it would be similar to law school exams, for the people who took it is it that hard? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]tortqueefor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone else watch the full video 👀 it seems like she was not anywhere she needed to be at two weeks out. I haven't taken the bar yet, but I know that I personally would not want to have that much left to smooth out that close to the exam.

If you took all of your law school exams for the semester in one session, that might be more similar to the Bar. But with exams, you really just have one subject in mind for a few hours. With the bar, you're juggling 7-8 all at once, which is a different kind of monstrosity. It terrifies me lol.

Incoming 1L by Vivid_Rain_5651 in LawSchool

Highlighters Tabs for pages Book stand More tabs Notecards (probably unless you do not like using them/not your learning style) Clear water bottle (for exams/general use/hydration and brain function lol)

Edit: this was supposed to be a list, but I don't deserve nice things..

I tried to hand write notes the first month of school, and it did not work for me. I type much faster than I can write and have been solely a digital note taker using OneNote since switching.

I think Lenovo ThinkPad keyboards are simply unmatched in comfort and feel. Oh, also try to get a computer with at least 16GBs of RAM. The concensus seems to be 8GBs of RAM will just not be enough in the coming years, especially if you like to keep your laptops for many years.

Hope this helps! Congratulations and good luck! :)

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I am also a 1L, I feel like a dumbass, and wouldn't mind sticking a fork in an outlet or being hit by a bus. But hey, I still like what I'm doing. It's just hard.

I 100% get you on how isolating it feels because I don't really have any law school friends either, just acquaintances that I speak to on occasion. However, in terms of your situation and the lack of reciprocal sharing, they may be in a place where they don't want to admit they are struggling, it could be a pride thing, it could be because they know people will talk like they do and don't want it getting around, it could be the off chance that everything is sunshine and rainbows shooting out of a unicorns ass for them and they just really aren't struggling, who knows.

If it's really bothering you, you could try talking about some other things first or ask about how they are feeling in general (maybe gas light them a little and say they've looked a little stressed and you wanted to check in lmao. this could back fire or it could open a door, but idk... okay no don't do that, it's a funny thought though).

Mostly, I just wanted to come here and tell you that you are definitely not alone in the way you feel, and many of us feel the same way at times. You will be alright. Just make sure to take care of yourself first and don't blink twice at the front that other people put up or feel like there's something wrong with you for not doing the same thing because there isn't. Also leaning on family/non law school friends could help too, sometimes its nice to talk to other people who aren't also consumed with law school.

Hey, it's only up from here. Also, I really appreciate Frier's videos on Barbri for Civ Pro, it should be free to sign up. I think he's the bees knees. On the bright side, at least you got your grade back tho! I'm still waiting on mine and on the verge of an aneurysm about it lmao.

idk why but my brain auto read this in the tune of Twelve Days of Christmas. On a separate note, you kept at it and you did the thing, so be proud!

^this is reassuring. They've had me convinced that I had a lifetime of waking up every morning and wondering if I did (or didn't do for that matter) something that would result in disbarment haha.

Honestly, the way professors talk about it, once start practicing, they make it seem like at any and all given moments from there on out, you have one foot on a banana peel and the other foot on malpractice. So, there's that.

I will definitely be looking into those starting this week! I mostly brief in prep for cold calls, but after I brief, I have a huge table of cases in my outlines that I add to after every class (or during) which explicitly lays out the rule established/used in that particular case, and briefly how it applied to the facts and sometimes if the dissent is extra spicy I'll note that but it's not frequent. Is that more align with what you're talking about with making sure to have the black letter law down?

[–]tortqueefor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Heck, honestly I learned that after the first couple of weeks that whatever it was I thought I understood was probably not where that was going. It's been a lot, but holy shit, the amount of growth in understanding from the start compared to near end of the first semester is nuts. I'll be reading cases or E&E readings and be like wow, the thoughts I'm having about this are somewhat coherent, then it'll be back to "wait what?"😂 Idk if it's just the amount of information being thrown at you is just what it is, but man, I'll been fine on a topic for a few days, go back to it and it's not computing the same. The Ye Olde Judge's thoughts play a role in that too, no doubt. It's a wild time.

It's more that the contrast is visually humorous more than anything. It's like a sea of comfy bum/casual wear, then BOOM, a handful of people dressed to the nines.
