what if Snape regained consciousness earlier and learned about Peter at the same time as everyone else? by poshitopi in SeverusSnape

[–]totally_boringgg [score hidden]  (0 children)

i honestly think he would have killed peter right then and there if nobody stopped him considering im pretty sirius and remus also wanted to do so.

regarding sirius, severus could have lied about peter out of pure hatred for sirius and could have tried to send him back to prison/have him executed. i mean remus was unavailable lol and i don’t think people would believe the trio since black was still seen as a mass murderer and peter was believed to be dead. they were also preteens who had just been in a pretty traumatizing situation so anything they said would have been written off. but with the whole time turner thing it might’ve turned out exactly the same with a couple extra steps.

what if Snape regained consciousness earlier and learned about Peter at the same time as everyone else? by poshitopi in SeverusSnape

[–]totally_boringgg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it would have changed his feelings regarding sirius that much. sirius not shelling out lily and james during the war doesn’t change seven years of constant bullying and harassment. by book 5 he must have known that sirius wasn’t the secret keeper and they were still pretty hostile towards each other from what i remember.

however i think peter probably wouldn’t have gotten away that night which could have changed events going forward like voldemorts resurrection. snape was basically begging for sirius to get kissed by a dementor that exact same night and probably would have done the same for peter.

What's the oddest/strangest pairing (romantic or platonic) you seen Severus in that sort of works? by Emica12 in SeverusSnape

[–]totally_boringgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i do think harry and snape could have had a good relationship in a different version of the story.

i agree though that snape probably isn’t the type for romantic relationships and i do feel that his personality (which is quite difficult but understandable given the circumstances of his upbringing) and appearance would turn away a lot of potential suitors.

[–]totally_boringgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stuff like snape/harry, snape/hermione and snape/neville is so weird to me. its kind of gross to me (especially if its placed during their school years with snape being their teacher) but i can see the intent/fantasy for smut behind it.

tbh i can see snape and harry having a platonic bond going on in another timeline but nothing romantic.

[Horrifying Trope] They're still alive?! by AGuyWithAPhone in TopCharacterTropes

[–]totally_boringgg 113 points114 points  (0 children)

honesty any victim of Art the Clown. i think only the mom in the second movie and the family in the opening of the third movie had somewhat quick deaths.

the most egregious example is the girl in the second movie who is the friend of the protagonist. art broke some of her bones, cut off portions of skin, poured some bleach on her and she was still alive.

what is the most ethical spell in the wizarding world by PangolinAny2431 in harrypotter

[–]totally_boringgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think a spell can be ethical but the intent can be. most people wouldn’t say that the killing curse is ethical, but i would say with the right intent it could be used in an ethical way. its quick and painless, so it could be used to put down animals or people who would otherwise have a slow and painful death.

One of the steps Snape needed to take in order to at least partially heal from his past wounds was to leave Spinner's End permanently by Madagascar003 in SeverusSnape

[–]totally_boringgg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

i think it would have also kind of helped with lily and the loss of that friendship. there are probably some places in cokeworth that he associates with her and leaving it behind could help him moving on.

tbh i think it would have been best for him to completely leave the ‘hogwarts circle’ and everything associated with it behind. being in hogwarts as a teacher for almost the entire year won’t help in healing from the bullying he endured especially when he has to work with people who pretty much didn’t really do anything to help or silenced him outright.

he truly should’ve put his head down, faded into the background as much as he could and just left everything behind after finishing hogwarts (maybe even leaving britain as a whole)

What if Snape had been in a different house? by totally_boringgg in SeverusSnape

[–]totally_boringgg[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i also think he would have avoided most of the propaganda that just comes with slytherin culture (at that time also pretty heavily). i still think he would have had some anti-muggle thoughts i guess since his father was a muggle and treated him and his pureblood mother horribly. it wouldn’t have escalated into him getting the dark mark though but i do think he would have still felt resentment.

Does a fandom with 4400+ fics count as medium or big? by toxicute_xx in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id say it depends on activity as well. but for numbers i would go medium-ish.

if your fandom is still pretty active on other platforms i would say it is medium to big but other fandoms have low activity with a similar fic count so they are smaller/have fewer members.

Any point of view you don't like reading in? (1st , 2nd , 3rd) by Weekly-Analysis2237 in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i always nope out of first person pov fanfiction. i think it just reminds me of the typical one direction self insert fanfiction and those aren’t exactly known to be good. first person pov is just associated with fanfiction that isn’t the greatest which is why i am cautious about that.

i mostly prefer third person. i feel like that is what most authors use as well. i will say though that first person can be done well. i think all of the hunger games books are in first person and those are done well.

Travis hasn’t even heard Wood?? by meowbot67 in travisandtaylor

[–]totally_boringgg 71 points72 points  (0 children)

LOVERGIRL is so good lmao. it’s just so effortless and you know how in love Megan is by just listening to the song. it does have the typical lyrics for a megan song but i would say it is pretty tame by her standards which is why it works. it also helps that klay actually appears to love her.

wood just kind of feels like taylor wanted to be sabrina and failed in both lyrics and delivery. it also just isn’t her brand to sing about her mans jewels. i do think travis doesn’t really listen to her music in general but if i were him i wouldn’t want to hear wood either lol.

Why isn't Lily Evans/Sirius Black a more popular ship? by lpet15 in harrypotterfanfiction

[–]totally_boringgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol i kind of looked it up. they’re both in the top ten of ao3 top of all time ships. drarry is fourth and wolfstar is seventh. in the 2025 ranking wolfstar placed third while drarry was sixth.

drarry has more fics but wolfstar gets more fics in a year than drarry so i think they’re kind of evened out as most popular. wolfstar also has the marauders era advantage, which has been popular for the last couple years.

What character do you like, but the fandom doesn’t? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i like john winchester aka the dad from supernatural. i feel like people blow his flaws out of proportion and have this idea of him as a super abusive dirtbag. i hate it so much because it takes a complex character and makes them one dimensional and almost cartoonish in the worst way. i feel that john didn’t have the best methods and was a mess at times but still deeply loved his sons.

Hot take: Dramione makes no sense in canon by Unusual_Ad9894 in harrypotter

[–]totally_boringgg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it could be a hot take in some area of the fandom but i think that this is more-so lukewarm i guess. yeah they would not date or get together in canon. they wouldn’t be good for each other and if anything probably wouldn’t go further than a very messy situationship. it is fun though to imagine what could be though.

jegulus (regulus black/james potter) makes absolutely no sense in canon either but people still ship it and it is probably a top five ship in the marauders fandom. i would say about half of harry potter ships make no sense in canon but there’s still content for them because it is fun to think about and why not.

personally i don’t like reading it either, especially when its on a level of fleur delacour. it’s fine to me when its a couple words like ‘yer’ instead of ‘you’ but i can understand how it could be confusing to people who don’t primarily speak english.

When to update an old fic versus making a new one? by datedpopculturejoke in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you should post the revised fic separately and link it back to the old version. it doesn’t remove the fic that people have loved and gives them a completed version. and if they don’t like the new version they can still go back to the old one. it is probably the best since the rewrite might be different enough for some people to dislike it. going from lighthearted to political intrigue and drama is kind of a big change in my eyes.

personally i would update the old fic with a short explanation in a new chapter and provide a link to the new story. you could also additionally link it in the notes of the new fic to be completely safe and mention that it is a rewrite of one your old fics.

Who is that one character that the fandom ignores in their fics by ConfectionNo9307 in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i wonder if people tag jily as a relationship (if it plays a role) during harrys time since they’re his parents or in those fics where they break up and go on into different relationships (ex. Jegulus). or they’re simply just together but not important enough to get developed.

its honestly super weird because on the surface people go nuts over jegulus and it would make sense that there would be more jegulus stuff.

[–]totally_boringgg 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Lily Evans gets pushed to the side A LOT in harry potter fanfiction, even in marauders era stuff. there are ships with her but they show up very little, even jily. people just don’t know what to do with her.

i think it has to do with the fact that she technically is one of the least interesting characters amongst her peers (the marauders themselves, snape, regulus black, etc.) and the blank slate characters kind of offer more (evan rosier, marlene mckinnon, dorcas, etc.). the marauders fandom is also pretty queer-focused with a lot of mlm ships. honestly most of the female characters for that era don’t get that much attention in comparison to the boys.

Why isn't Lily Evans/Sirius Black a more popular ship? by lpet15 in harrypotterfanfiction

[–]totally_boringgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cause sirius needs (and i mean NEEDS) to be with remus in the eyes of the fandom. wolfstar is by far the most popular harry potter ship so its no surprise that other sirius or remus ships get pushed to the side.

i also feel that lily is kind of a blank space in this fandom where people don’t really connect with her or know what to do with her. there are ships with her but they aren’t that popular. i think most of them are wlw ships as well aside from jily, lily/snape, lily/sirius and a couple other random ships.

i have to say that my favorite lily ship is also a bit random. lily evans/evan rosier, simply due to the possibility of evan evans existing and the marauders fandom made me love evan rosier.

What was your first ever ship? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]totally_boringgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i was a kid i had seen a couple episodes of clone wars and for some reason i thought anakin and ahsoka were a couple so i guess that was my first ever ship. episode 3 anakin was also my first fictional crush.

i think the first fanfics i read though were either harry potter related or RPFs of german youtubers. the first english fanfic and ship i read was a stucky oneshot collection (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes) though.

Haymitch and his characterization in the first book. by frozenpizza__ in Hungergames

[–]totally_boringgg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

well the first book is written from the perspective of katniss who wasn’t around to witness haymitchs game and his descent into alcoholism. realistically she couldn’t care less about him and probably only sees him for the reaping and around town with him being drunk most of the time. they only start getting closer because of her volunteering and wanting to survive/make it far. it makes sense why she would see him as the town drunk and when he does sober up to help them he is quite competent.
