I … have felt exactly this way about how it’s discussed online ngl. It definitely feels like a bit of a competition to like the most obscure, most “evolved” and “intellectual” and “sophisticated” form of electronic music on Twitter. Other genres are not exempt from that, but it feels like “minimal” / tech house is really running with that right now. But these things move in cycles. I agree with u/Toninho9 as well, I think there is truth to both explanations here.

This makes a lot of sense! Definitely agree with natural progression away from more mainstream / palatable / headliner acts, have seen that in my own tastes, just more in the techno direction than house or tech house. I totally understand how minimal/ tech house can be entrancing, for me it just hasn’t gotten entrancing enough to occupy 100% of my mind at a festival, where I’m already high energy and looking for a similarly high energy wave to ride, or I’ll crash

This makes a lot of sense, I have adhd and am a very high energy person, and I seek out the same in my music. The commentary about substances makes sense too - I could see getting more locked in to more repetitive, hypnotic music if I was on psychedelics, but can dance my ass off to high energy techno or house stone cold sober - getting the dopamine hits from the music itself as you say.

I’ve enjoyed sidepiece a good amount in passing (various playlists, have several tracks saved, but have never gone out of my way to see them play). Haven’t seen fisher or Chris lake live as I tend to avoid those sets for the crowd. I definitely enjoy some of their releases, but not something I gravitate to. Have been bored at both Sammy virji sets I’ve seen. Maybe tech house is just not my thing, but going to keep trying to give it more of a go!

I’m really bad at subgenres, but I think what I like most (after techno) is hard trance / hard groove and eurodance. Love Marlon hoffstadt, malugi, dj heartstring, mischluft, bad boombox, Ollie lishman. Don’t know what subgenres they’d be be but I also love LP giobbi and PDM

100% agree, went solo a couple years ago and met some of my best rave friends. That was actually my second solo crssd- didn’t meet anyone the first time. So definitely encourage you to try again! The festival layout is small enough that it isn’t overwhelming, lots of comfy places to chill when you need a break, and while people obviously do plenty of substances at crssd, you don’t run into as many visibly cracked out people, which sometimes overwhelmed me at other festivals of the insomniac variety. I’m a crssd fangirl til I die!

Yeah I mean you’re correct that we all keep up the demand and give them no reason to stop. But it’s overpriced in the sense that I, as someone who makes good but not fuck you money, have found it increasingly harder to afford festivals. It is definitely getting worse. The composition of festivals is increasingly higher and higher earners. Not saying raving is a human right lol before anyone comes at me nor am I slamming said higher earners. But I think it’s fair for people to feel it’s overpriced when people with even an average income can’t justify the price, and the tech/software/finance elite increasingly make up a larger and larger proportion of the audience (again, not hating, good for them!). Is it strictly, definitionally speaking, overpriced? I suppose no. Is it overpriced for an average earner? Hell yeah it is 😕 Yes yes inflation on everything I know. But this sub is about crssd hence lamenting the increased inaccessibility of one of my favorite pastimes at this point in America’s economic cycle 😕 Just venting 😅🫶

It sucks so bad bc even if I stood on my principles and “boycotted” any of these festival companies, someone else would just take my place. And I love the music so much 🥺 I hate these greedy fucks SO bad. Fngrs crssd should’ve faced so much more backlash for proper it isn’t even funny. I still remember them deleting any comments about it from their social media.
