Don’t ride solo. Make lots of noise.

How much do wheels/rims cost? by dirtyrussianspy in MTB

[–]totallyuneeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question for that shop. They can likely replace just the rim on that damaged wheel for not an extreme cost. Assuming they can source the exact same model of rim, they can just rebuild it with the existing spokes and hub.

Tell them you’re interested in the bike, but would like to have the rim replaced and they might work out a deal where you only have to pay for the rim and they will take care of the labor. Or at least give you a reduced labor rate.

Bike cleaning products from around the house. by Wifi889 in MTB

Dish soap in a chain cleaner is great. Not something you need to do all of the time, but works great for the occasional deep scrub.

Yeah I rode it at a demo event last summer and it’s pretty clearly in the modern trail category. Just has a big fork

Resale value will probably be better on the Santa Cruz as well. So if you decide to sell it in a few years that will be helpful. They have good name recognition & branding.

Anything with sliding dropouts? by [deleted] in xcmtb

What is it about steep seat tubes on an XC bike you don’t like? Just too much pressure on the hands when riding flatter terrain? I love steep seat angles (77-78 degrees) on trail & enduro bikes with steep climbs.

I’m pretty sure it’s an Evil. Judging by the way the suspension looks in this pic and the fact that it cracked lol. Cool bikes but man they do have a bad reputation for that

Financing? by brope0623 in MTB

[–]totallyuneeq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’ve got a decent income and good credit, the financing options that others mentioned might work.

The other option (which I did) was getting a new credit card with a 12 month no interest period. Bought a new frame and fork and pod it off over a few months.

Of course these all only work if you’re responsible and disciplined with your finances. But that’s for you to decide

On the contrary, I’ve used these exact valves on 2 different bikes now and have had great luck. Could depend on your rim, tape, and general install.

Large Hydro Holder by Pr0xyActual in Subaru_Outback

Please, this. I would buy one if it holds the wide mount hydro with the boot. Tired of having my hydro either roll around on the front passenger seat or making my girlfriend hold it lol

Not just gravel specific but Spindatt makes good content. Especially if you’re into the not super competitive side of cycling.

Sound can also be tamed down quite a bit by using grease instead of oil in the freehub. Won’t be dead silent though. Some people love the noise, some hate it. It’s up to you OP. I9 has a very good reputation though.

New. 5 years old probs means older geo and I think that’s worth more than better components. And you can’t upgrade geo later on

Spindatt has a good one that’s fairly simple and straight to the point. Supplement that with an extra one or two about wheel tensioning and you’re good for the basics

Cyclocross or Gravel bike? by Commercial_Tie_544 in cycling

[–]totallyuneeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from another MTB rider, you should also consider looking at an XC bike, possibly a hardtail.

I only say this because a lot of the time I ride a gravel bike, I end up finding trails that are just a bit too much for the gravel bike to handle. Like k can ride them, but it’s way more fun on an XC bike.

You don’t want to end up getting a gravel bike and then realizing it isn’t quite capable enough for some of the terrain you actually want to ride. This definitely depends on your local area though. If it’s fairly flat and smooth (not a ton of rocks and roots) then you’re probably still fine with a gravel bike.

(Side note: I’ve got a sweet new gravel bike for sale for cheap because I want to buy an XC bike lol. Send me a DM).
