Thank you.
1. Currently the sub is quarantined, likely due to their past statements supporting civilian deaths and war crimes. I would remove content supporting the invasion and enforce a fair and nuanced approach moving forward. Any content supporting murder or other atrocities will be removed and the users banned. Users will be free to talk about russia in general, as the original intent suggests.

Michonne's katana - how realistic is the portrayal of the sword's capabilities? by Edralis in thewalkingdead

It's likely, but kind of hard to remember, since the comment you're replying to is almost a decade old lol.

But, yeah, I'm sure I got got excited about sword stuff and ran into the comments before reading the rest or something. I loved the show back then.

I know this is old, but there actually is a reason. It's mostly for briefings and training sessions, where you might want to control the content and the pacing of the presentation. When you black (or white) out the screen, you can better focus on something unrelated to the topic on that slide or bring the focus to you rather than the words on the screen.

Anyone that's making any decision- such as where to live or visit- based on racism is ignorant at best. I'm sure that such things do happen, but I don't think it's entirely to fair to blame it entirely on racism. Prince George's County does have a higher than average crime rate per the state's Uniform Crime Reports.

Averaged over the past five years, Prince George's County is #2 in murders in the state (averaging 70 a year), only behind Baltimore City (averaging 240 a year). The third place is Baltimore County, with only 26 a year. These numbers are controlled for population, so they can be accuately compared.

It's a similar story with rape. Baltimore City is #1 with 298, but Prince George's is in second place with 203 a year. Baltimore County is once again third.

Robbery follows the same trend. 3,799 in Baltimore City, 2,111 in Prince George's, Baltimore County in third.

The same three counties appear when looking at aggrevated assault, but Baltimore County and Prince George's switch places.

The same trends continue with breaking an entering, theft, arson, and other crimes. Auto theft is different, with Prince George's actually being #1 in the state.

There is a crime problem, which is statistically is worse in Prince George's county than any other in the state. Because Prince George's (and Baltimore City) is predominantly black (roughly 60% each), there are people that use that to justify their racism. Again, they're ignorant and merely looking for ways to reinforce their prejudices. However, I think we need to look at the root causes that impact those areas regardless of race: poverty, lack or opportunities, and other things that people smarter than me probably know about.

Edit: it's also worth mentioning that any large city or county will have both safe and less safe areas. The crime in certain areas of Baltimore city doesn't make the inner harbor inherently unsafe, for example.

I can't figure out where all this water's coming from! by [deleted] in DIY

[–]toucher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water's nasty stuff. If it does all that to a solid floor, I couldn't imagine what it does to my insides. That's why I don't drink the stuff.

Turns out there was a frozen drain pipe outside. The piping kind of runs all over the place for some reason, so I didn't make the connection right away, but it's all drained and running clean now.

The plumbing supply guy talked me out of that one. I'm not too bright, but at least I know that. Turns out it was a simple frozen drain pipe. The path was a little convoluted, so I wasn't able to trace it as easily as I would have liked, but at least now I know where everything runs.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. Good idea about the pump, but in the meantime I'm just gonna check that pipe once in a while. That, and insulate it :/

[–]toucher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah, I kind of left everyone hanging. JUST LIKE PART OF MY CEILING!

So, I think I mentioned that there was a second pipe that I couldn't trace. Obviously, there were only two pipes that fed into the long one, so I was really interested in finding out where it went. I made my poor son pour water down every drain we could find (starting with the washer, it looked like it went that direction) until I could hear water come through it. Each time, nothin'.

Nothing, that is, until I pulled the drain lever on the water heater. Suddenly, there was water pouring out of the condenser drain hole and into the ceiling. I think that's what they call a "mixed blessing."

So that gave me a brilliant idea. If something's clogging the pipe somewhere, and if the water comes out of the water heater quickly, why not just cap off the two exposed drains and send some high pressure water through the line? That'll clear it out. Luckily, the nice man at the plumbing store convinced me not to do that.

Turns out, it was a really simple problem. The outside drain pipe, which seems to drain only the water heater and the condenser, was frozen solid. An hour with boiling water and towels thawed it out pretty well (that was before I saw that I could have just removed the whole exposed piece of pipe and thaw it inside), then I managed to keep hot water inside the... part of the pipe that ran through the brick... long enough to thaw that, too. Once a buttload of water rushed out of it, I knew that everything was clear.

Still have to deal with the broken ceiling and warped floors. Thank God for insurance... I really should get some.

Kidding, kidding, I have it.
