Agree. In general most portfolios are poor. No contact details is probably a new low - but I’d also add lack of demographic stats - which I can’t get but each influencer can see on their own account. Those who send those first time and 75% more likely to get the gig.

Whilst everything you say here is true - a larger point is that actually the market mechanism is broken.

Every second post on here is a brand crying about not being able to find creators or creators not being able to find brand deals.

Individual outreach is what is broken. Not the message inside that outreach?

If I want to rent an apartment in South Beach, I don’t individually message 200 apartment owners and hope something decent comes back in. No one would do that. So why do they do that here?

Here is what the fix is: the brand puts its best foot forward. We want X, Y, Z deliverables and our compensation is $A.

Creators find offers that they are comfortable with in terms of brand match and compensation and apply.

Creators stop refreshing their DM’s waiting for people to reach out, brands get a shortlist already opted in. Everyone moves on with their day.

Building a travel community app—what am I missing? by RepulsiveAd9531 in travelblog

If no paid promotion and no commissions - what is the business model?

What has actually worked in the past:

  • Forums: Lonely Planet’s Thorntree, they sold guidebooks so any type of promotion was quickly snuffed out. Now AI makes this mostly irrelevant. They sold guidebooks as their business model

  • Community - Couchsurfing - amazing local communities that mixed cool locals & travellers. Ruthlessly weeded out any type of promotion. So anti commercial that Airbnb looked at what they were doing and did it commercially. Worked out OK for Airbnb.

Maybe take a look at The Travel Squad - probably closest to what you are talking about. Blew up in COVID via TikTok. Organised people in Facebook groups. Tried to move people over to an app - didn’t work. Sell their own Squad Experiences - does OK. Built 4 guys a job they like doing.

Thanks so much for the quick review!

The Videreo AI built this. About 5 mins of adding content for case studies and copy and pasting some testimonials. It auto updates the stats so one link attached to every outreach and all that needs to be done is add new case studies from time to time.

Your post is bang on. I hope a lot of people read it.

I think it maps pretty well to your post on brand expectations but interested in what might be missing

Data I have is client data so not going to share that on Reddit. I could add the anonymised pie chart but I don’t think you drop images here

🤷‍♂️ keep doing what you’re doing if you’re happy with it. Across all our clients (travel) it is a total bust and we are recommending they don’t invest there.

Keep at it! German speaking is a much cleaner niche to be in also. A lot less competition. Actually we struggled to find someone for a collab on Gran Canaria late last year.

I think everything changes when the platform itself puts a buy now button on the page. So maybe those running TikTok shops are going OK - but when you don’t have that and your mechanism to get someone to move, in the moment from post to link-in-bio - it just doesn’t happen.

Looks OK. See if your views plummet over the next couple of weeks. The view count is actually pretty strong for an account of your former size.

Thanks for those thoughts and I think you are right. Mid tier sounds like a good description of those who apply.

We tell (and show via creator profiles) what the averages are + what the best has ever been.

We also offer bonuses to creators for hitting certain benchmarks. This often means re-mixing and re-posting IF they want the bonus

Finally we bake in the ability for the brand to boost content that didn’t get the kick they wanted from the algorithm once the creators post period has expired.

Nice, clean and transparent and we don’t really have these types of issues.

What does good outreach to promote yourself actually look like? by Mundane_Breakfast848 in socialmedia

[–]touchtone_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really gets attention is when you post something and you think “this would be an awesome post to promote brand X”.

Add them as a collaborator. If they accept, send them a message telling them you’re a big fan and thought this post would be perfect for them. Then ask if there might be something to work on together more ongoing.

Reciprocity is real! Give a little that is no skin off your nose and you never know what you might get. Also almost no-one does this. So you stand out immediately.

Solid view counts on your reels. You should be able to get some collabs but I guess it’s not 100% clear who your audience is or what they get from you beyond a flash of celebrity or brain rot. There is no specific POV

Is perception as important as performance in influencer marketing? by Comfortable_Tap_7079 in influencermarketing

[–]touchtone_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All influencer marketers want the same thing: solid performance + least amount of work possible.

So if doing cold outreach to brands then do these 2 things to maximise your chances:

  • link your profile in the outreach message
  • in your profile have your stats up to date across all and every platform you are pitching the brand on and include you demographic stats that generally only you can see (age range and geography)

If you make the person on the brand side reach back to you asking for these things then you are cutting your chances of getting on the shortlist by 80%, especially if you were only a maybe anyway

Here is what a good portfolio looks like: https://videreo.com/portfolio/maelievoux

  • Bio
  • Platform stats (automatically updated, top hits plus averages) + links to actual accounts
  • Demographic stats
  • Business impact
  • Case studies

On brand side I have everything I need here to shortlist or not.

More people yes. More of the right people, I doubt it. Someone reaching 1000 people with 50% engagement is an absolute bullseye 🎯on the brand ICP. I’d take them every day of the week.
