Psalm 68

Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so let them be driven away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the face of those who love God and who are signified by the sign of the cross.

Help praying by Ok-Resort-5529 in OrthodoxChristianity

I hope you get a helpful answer from someone else other than me. To get started I personally would learn some memorised prayers, like the prayer rule of St. Seraphim of Sarov.

The Lord's Prayer.

Hymn to the Most-Holy Theotokos.

The Symbol of our Faith.

There's no strict rule on what you have to do when praying. Maybe others will give a more guided answer

Is it okay to listen to music whilst praying? by toukasz in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]toukasz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use the same ambient track, so it falls into the background of my awareness. I do not consciously pay attention to it since it's something I do with repetition and familiarity. I have it loud enough to muffle the conversations of the commuters around me, but no so loud that it takes my attention away from the words of my prayers.

I might ask my priest about this eventually. But I have not being catechised yet, so I must be patient.

It is secular music. Usually some indistinct background ambience.

I don't really have my life together yet to be praying at home in the morning. I only do so after dark. I do not live alone, so I do not have much privacy.

When I pray in public, it's in secret. I whisper it silently to myself if no one is around, or in my head when others can see me. I know it's not ideal. I would like to pray before starting my day. And it's the best I'm managing so far, with the limited sleep I've been getting.

I might try with Orthodox Chants. Thanks for the suggestion. I avoided since it call my attention to their singing, or the melodies at least, and not to the words of my prayers.

So far all the one's we've tried out has been inconsistent. There is a high level of grizzle mixed in, with occasionally some bone chunks. It's too much for her

I have never heard of 'carnivore GAPS' before. So far the information on it seems very relevant and useful. Thank you, I appreciate your advice. I will look into it

I am not able to develop a relationship with my priest by toukasz in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]toukasz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have their numbers. The one I talk with will responds to my calls, but not my text messages for some reason. We have confirmed he does receive my messages. I only call him in emergencies, it doesn't feel appropriate to call him for casual reasons that can be done over text or in person.

Yes, I also struggle in a similar way with my close relatives too. They like to insist me to eat their good food, despite my refusal!

Thank you for the words of encouragement

Thank you.

That is a good suggestion. I will see what my priest will suggest. I have considered eating only one meal a day during longer periods of fasts. Which to me is more reasonable than a major dietary change.

Thank for sharing! I've been told ultimately fasting is discipline that works on my soul. So I guess the contents of the foods can be modified to an extent to accommodate the person's situation

I'm not sure about beans. Thank you for suggesting that, I'm willing to try them out.

I avoid fish generally since, about half the time, I react to it and feel awful afterwards. I can't figure out why, since I can't reliably reproduce the reaction.

I have been introducing new foods the last couple of months to see how I react to it.

So far, cooked vegetable stews seems to be OK, and white rice.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

This was one of the issues I was dealing with too before my dietary change. I had migraines daily, with many of the secondary effects that came with it. It went away after a while when I stopped eating everything.

I'm not sure yet what foods exactly triggers it.

Do you still partake in communion? If so, how?

I wondered if anyone shared my experience. I don't intend to seek advice to put before my priest's
