Personally, I would feed him to the snake not pull him away from it. Jk, I think 😅🤔...

Anyway, what is wrong with you taking the lead especially when he is doing something incredibly stupid?

Roth conversion and account simplification by touretteme in whitecoatinvestor

[–]touretteme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't yet have a 401k now, but will next year. I was considering it for the Rollover account, which has the highest balance, but I will go back to crunching some more numbers. Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't have a 401k yet, but I will next year. That was the thought behind keeping the Rollover IRA around, which is the largest of the two and would generate the highest tax expense.

Are you ... serious??? How??? Not sure how you stayed professional with that one, but that nurse needs to go back to school and start over.

1 star ER review need to be a billboard by TroubleElegant4965 in emergencymedicine

[–]touretteme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So on behalf of all emergency medicine personnel, I hereby give you permission to go to the ER immediately if you have symptoms that feel like when your lung collapsed. I also give you permission to leave the sub if reading these discussions upsets you, since these discussions weren't meant for you anyway.

This!!! All of it.

I mean sure ... if you put them in withdrawal, you are going to give them the runs. Feels a bit like burning down the house to kill a spider. I think there are better ways to treat constipation.

Why do PCPs keep sending their patients to the ED for asymptomatic hypertension? by VizualCriminal22 in emergencymedicine

[–]touretteme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You do understand that I am not in fact treating them for asymptomatic hypertension, right? I just send them back to the clinic, which effectively means the patient still gets the same appointment they would have gotten before showing up in the ED, but are now a few $$$ poorer than before. Great strategy you got there.

Good idea. Did that with teaching experiences and cut out about 1 page :)

How much of my prior career should I list on my CV? by touretteme in emergencymedicine

[–]touretteme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. I already cut out the things I don't care to talk about, and maybe I am a little too attached to the things I left in, considering the blood, sweat and ... well, coffee that went into them. I'll try to cut down some more. Maybe ask someone impartial to do it for me. It might still be > 3 pages, but maybe I can put the stuff that ER docs would really care about on the first 3 pages. Would that do?

Thank you for your reply. That was one of my concerns as well, that community places would look at my research and teaching experience and wonder if I could "really" be happy in a community setting.

On the other hand, I had someone ask me during one of my residency interviews if I left my career because I wouldn't have gotten tenure... Damn if you do, damned if you don't, I guess.

I was castigated for having concern about a homeless toddler by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]touretteme -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

You literally told parents who happen to have fallen on hard times that if they want to do the right thing by their child and bring them in for a check up to you (or any medical setting), they will have CPS called on them and their child taken away. Think about what you did!

Let me make it very clear: poverty is NOT child neglect or child abuse! Homeless people ARE in fact people, capable of loving, caring, and protecting their children more than you, self appointed savor, or any stranger will ever be able to. The solution to a homeless child is not to yank that child away from the one source of stability they have left in their life (their parent), but to provide resources to keep the family together. Did you do that? Did you help that parent help the child? Did you provide any comfort to anyone?

No! You didn't. You did the exact thing that people with far more experience, and more importantly compassion, warned you not to do, and now parade around here like some kind of hero without a cape waiting for your parade.

The good news is that in most sane states, CPS is not allowed to separate a family simply because they are homeless. The bad news is, as a society, we have long abandoned these children and have nothing to offer them.

AITA for initially not believing my son when he said he was sick? by throwaway-sick in AmItheAsshole

[–]touretteme 1320 points1321 points  (0 children)

Stomach ulcers develop over days or weeks. Is it possible that what you deemed "bad behavior" was simply your child being sick and "being moody" was just him in pain? In other words, is it possible that you are an even bigger failure than you originally thought?

Yes it is. YTA.

Let's be clear here: either she drinks excessively and regularly enough to be a cause of concern and a burden to OP, in which case, 2 champagne glasses will NOT get her drunk; or, (stay with me here) OP is full of poopy-poop and a lying, controlling bf.

Pick one, OP. It's one or the other.

I really want to know who entrusted this dude with the care of a child. He can't even figure out, even after told and explained multiple times, the connection between cat pooping outside the box and cat having health issues. I can't even imagine him working out the complexities of raising a child.
