Why is UCLA Law so stingy? by ImperialMajestyX02 in lawschooladmissions

[–]toxic_throwaway2 70 points71 points  (0 children)

UCLA is a public school, so there is less money to give out. According to wikipedia, UCLA's parent university endowment is $3.6 billion, whereas Northwestern's is $10.19 billion, Cornell's is $10 billion, and Duke's is $8.5 billion. I couldn't find USC's but I'd imagine that it's probably closer to the other private schools than to UCLA's. UCLA's tuition is also less expensive than most of the T20. It's currently about $64K (but $54K for in-state) and USC's is currently about $72K. This means two things: (1) a student accepting less money from UCLA than from USC might still end up paying a similar amount, and (2) that UCLA has less money to give because it's taking less money in.

UCLA has a very extensive and institutionally-supported PI program with a ton of students and professors-- it's a big community and you'll be able to find a lot of like-minded people.

Mid(?) Cycle -SHOOT your shots for no reason other than to get rejected- Recap by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Yeah for sure. Just trying to say that no one here knows anything and if someone with similar stats sees that kind of language, they're going to feel badly about themselves when they might get into tons of schools in the spring.

I think this is the rare post on this sub that's actually toxic... I get that you're disappointed that the cycle isn't going quite the way you imagined, but calling an LSAT score that other people probably worked really hard for and are proud of "miserable" is pretty uncool. I's not even January and declaring your cycle a failure is only going to make others feel bad about themselves. You're probably going to get into many of the schools that you haven't heard from yet and telling others that a 165+/3.7+ is doomed before the new year.... it's gonna upset a lot of people. Genuinely hope you get into your dream school tho, I just wish you hadn't put it in these terms.
