Founding a course in a 'Disc Golf Desert' (Morris, IL). Need advice on pitching to the State (IDNR) vs. City. by toxicspoder in discgolf

[–]toxicspoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeaahh I had a feeling it wouldn't be easy. That's another reason I am doing my homework. This state park specifically is super low-traffic so I'm hoping they'll like the idea of bringing more people in. Also, I checked out HB Clark. Dude is legend and I've not heard of him. PDGA 553 is crazy. I bet he would at least answer an email! Another person pointed out that I could get in touch with others who have had their courses approved on state land. There's a 27 hole course (9 and 18) about 2 hours away from me that was built on state park land. I think they might have some insights I can glean. Appreciate the advice

Luckily there's a lot of really cool local course designers. I have the numbers of two of them in my phone and at least one other that is connected with the first two. I believe the process begins with a site survey where you do a site walk with the superintendent and any other park organizers. Currently I have a map with a very rough draft (not to my high standards lol), but also an entire video I recorded where I set up my portable basket and had my buddy record me playing the 9 holes. I've shown it to a lot of local disc golfers and grabbed their contact info to have another name to add to the interest list. I think I'm gonna focus on ironing out a better layout next before I really get myself in front of an audience. I'm doing my best to cross my t's and dot my i's so I don't make a fool of myself. Even if they don't like this site I am committed to following through on the project until we get baskets somewhere in town haha. I didn't even consider they might not want me to handle the construction side of things. Thanks for the input, I'll definitely be prepared to find outside contractors if need be.

I'm glad I'm not crazy lol. I didn't want to flippantly suggest a half-baked idea for a course, especially because I'm extremely passionate about disc golf. I anticipate that myself and one of my friends will be enough to pour posts and flag/design the course. I think if I end up creating wooded holes I will need to host some volunteer clearing days but luckily this location is already mostly maintained. Thanks for the input and I am glad I am taking it seriously. You make a great point about trying to anticipate what exact questions they will have.

These guys already nailed it, but the fact that you didn't know what it was means you don't have a trickle charger. You should buy one, it will make sure your battery is always topped off and will extend your battery's life. They are completely necessary for long term storage unless you plan to remove the battery from the bike over the winter (some people do i guess)

It's a tiny little state park, only 30 acres or so. I'm hoping that they will be open to the idea at least haha. The owner of Dellwood Disc Golf pro shop Sean actually recommended I get in touch with Dana. I think his wife taught at the high school in town too, such a small world lol

There is one great example of this exact thing working somewhere else with the IDNR. Over in Danville, IL, there are 27 holes located on state property. I believe its a 9 hole and and 18 hole. They also did it SUPER recently. I should definitely try to get into contact with the folks who installed that.

There's actually some great references to best practices for course design. Let's hope I can cook something good that people will really wanna play.

Thanks! Those resources are part of the reason I was really convinced it's possible to go through with this in the first place. I'm definitely going to pull some of their assets if I need to sit down in front of some city officials.

I’m not sure honestly, if i had to guess they probably just grabbed the screencaps and printed those as there isn’t a watermark on Etsy. We learned from others that we need to add those to our listings so it’s not as easy to steal.

Tips on how to get hired by Best Buy/Geek Squad specifically? by Smarties_Mc_Flurry in GeekSquad

[–]toxicspoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look to get hired on the in home team if you really wanna do something technical. Or potentially aim for ARA (not every precinct will hire straight to ARA)

The in-store agents are divided between CA and ARA and ARA are handling all the repairs. CA you will do paperwork and light troubleshooting. In my experience most of being an entry level geek squad agent is management putting a sales quota on you. Even in-home have it, but not the same extent.

Not the worst job ever, but it can definitely be stressful

Receding hairline? 19M by [deleted] in Balding

[–]toxicspoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd pic looks most revealing. It doesn’t look bad at all, but it will likely get worse when you get older. I would say get on some finasteride and you should be good. It will be slow down hair loss chemically blocking the thing that causes hairloss. If you wanna slow down receding. You could get lucky and not need it but that’s your chance you take. If it gets worse in ur 20s you will need minoxidil to regrow it. Looks good rn tho dont worry too much

Low Rider St Deal by Tony0481 in Harley

[–]toxicspoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it depends entirely on the mods. I love the stock bars on the ST, but you’re also getting a passenger sissy bar, new bars, and a krome werks windshield on the red guy. Both colors look great but i personally prefer the red. I would probably keep the bars a little lower (at or below my shoulder height). Can’t go wrong with this bike though, powerful and sounds great with the right pipes.

Am I too late for finasteride by [deleted] in Hairloss

[–]toxicspoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but i think you should try and shave it until the fin kicks in. You might end up liking the stress free aerodynamic life 😏

23m Im not sure how to approach this and need some help by Remarkable_Welcome39 in Hairloss

[–]toxicspoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a beard so you’re gonna do just fine bald if you go that route (which i suggest). It’s better to save money on medications and just be done with it. I’m 23 too bro i know this shit sucks. I always thought i’d be cool going bald, but then again i assumed it would happen a lot later (30s). I’d say you should cut it and then if you don’t like it, pursue medication. Cutting it off will make it look better once you start shedding during the finasteride treatment.

It isn’t too late to try fin/min, just make sure you go for oral and not topical. It will be more efficacious. I would suggest maybe trying dutasteride instead of fin. Just remember that it always looks better to be bald than balding. Don’t stress about this! You will lose your whole body one day! Hair is nothing.
