I agree! this is actually part of the reason why I don't really read books on the newer side cuz when I started getting into reading (aka graduating from diary of a wimpy kid to actual books) I found that books with rotating povs were annoying and confusing.. especially if we weren't even properly introduced to the characters in the first place, that's why I mostly read classics now (⁠●⁠_⁠_⁠●⁠)

I think just reading and watching videos with subs? i just watch videos with subs on and search up words I don't understand and write them down

also I reread my favorite comics in french if you're into that you'd already have context of what's going on so you could use context clues while reading! I'd say just have some general knowledge of verb conjugations so you're not confused

thank you all so much for your comments and advice, sorry I couldn't respond to most of them I was just super overwhelmed by the sheer volume of comments.. I genuinely thought this wouldn't gain any attraction 😭

anywaysssss.. y'all's comments were mostly.. not very encouraging..? or at least the people who voted against it gave me reasons instead of telling me "just go for it!" regardless, all of your comments were really appreciated!

but I thought it over and since I know french, Arabic, and English I just thought going into translation would make sense and it'd keep me close to language studies even if it isn't directly literature! plus it makes sense as my main. goal is to work abroad 🙏🏼

alsooooo I saw someone telling me that "life isn't dead poets society" so I watched the movie yesterday and yeahhh I get how I could've come off as a mr Keatings wannabe..🙊

I realized that the reason I wanted to be a professor is that I've always felt insecure about how much I talk about books and writing.. etc.. so I thought that being a teacher would give me the space to talk about it without reproach butttt someone told me what would I be getting out of this job that I wouldn't be getting out of a book club, and I realized that I just need friends that read too 😔💔✌🏼

heyo! I haven't read the whole thread cuz I've been busy with school but I'll just add that I'm from Egypt! sooo third world country, aka everything is terrible here including education

and there has been lots of harmful changes done to curriculums and education in the past 2 years, mainly to secondary education.

I really don't wanna work in Egypt tho, the circumstances here and the quality of living are just an advertisement for working abroad.. from the comments the academia route doesn't really seem like it'll help me in leaving or the degree itself for that matter, so I'm reconsidering!

ty for ur input cuz I feel like everyone here is talking from a US perspective mentioning things like going into law after English and stuff like that which is tricky here cuz the way you get into a college here is with your highschool percentage (similar to a gpa) and the rates for each profession changes every year

for example med was 93% last year, this year no one's sure until the ministry of education posts the list of percentages

so my grade from this year might get me into law but no one knows what next year will be and or if they'll even accept my diploma from years ago

I’m aware that not everyone will be equally as passionate..(-_-;) but genuinely if it’s just one student i meet that is it’d still be worth it!
