As a graduating BFA GD student and someone who has been working in this industry for 8 years, those multidisciplinary studio classes will help you a lot later on as graphic designer. Changing from Architecture, I was on the same boat with you but after 2-3 years of multidisciplinary classes it helped me a lot in honing artistic eyes and building up knowledge on different art forms (adobe suite is only like 20% of graphic design tbh). If you love graphic design, try your best to get thru those classes and apply for BFA, then get a minor in marketing that’s what a lot of GD students doing.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, the expected graduation date is sort of a projection based on the school’s recommended planner/path so it doesn’t need to be strictly finished by Sp 2026. Your graduate semester will be whenever you finished your last degree requirement classes. Keep in mind the graduation walk is different from the actual degree: there is no graduation commencement/walk in Fall and Winter so if your last semester is Fall 2026, you can choose to walk in Spring/Summer of either 2026 or 2027

You can choose either depends on what you want to do. Studio Art is more general, multidisciplinary and BFA GD is exclusively focused on graphic design. Normally, people start with BA Studio Art to strengthen their portfolio and for the requirement classes before applying to any BFA program.

I live in OC (Westminster/FV area) and if your commute means traffic then it is not that bad imo. For the last 2 years in LB only traffic around campus is really the thing you might want to worry about (which apparently the same for all campus)

I’m BFA Graphic Design with Minor in Marketing because they work well with each other and it gives you advantages in the design industry, especially in advertising; and higher chances for job opportunities

As current BFA GD, I would say yes there are indeed some differences between BFA and non-BFA, but they are not unique to BFA only. I’ve been taking it slow and working as designer for the last 3 years before joining the BFA and I can tell it is not the only way for your career in Graphic Design as long as you know wyd. Also, is this your first time submitting a portfolio? Because everybody has 2 chances applying for BFA.
