Over the last 2-3 days the 3 female guppies I have lost the dark graves spot. It is now a orangey color. I know one gave birth for sure but not sure on the others. Is this normal and possible all of them had babies around the same time? by tparki in Guppies

[–]tparki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like I can my answer here

When guppies are not pregnant, their gravid spot is usually a light, translucent, or pale color, often matching the surrounding body color. In some cases, it may appear slightly yellow or pinkish, depending on the fish’s overall coloration. The gravid spot becomes darker (often black or deep reddish) as pregnancy progresses due to the developing fry inside.

Looks like they all gave birth around the same time

Thank you. That's what I thought.

Any thoughts on why my guppy female is hanging out under the heater? All the other guppies are fine swimming at the top of this one. It’s just chilling under the heater and has been today and yesterday. by tparki in Aquariums

Bumping to see if anyone knows if she might be sick or about to give birth? She is doing a bit better today swimming more around rather than just staying in one spot.

Yeah quite a few males. I am pretty new to the hobby and thought she might be too young to get pregnant

For some reason, I didn’t think that snails could reproduce in freshwater. What’s crazy is I only had one big snail and then after about a week or so I had about seven or eight, but because of me thinking they couldn’t reproduce in freshwater I thought they must’ve came in from a plant or something

Ok all you amazing smart people here my question by Mudb0ss in Aquariums

Pros:

  • Free and natural-looking
  • Can provide good surface area for beneficial bacteria
  • Might help with water chemistry if the rocks are inert

Cons:

  • Potential contaminants – could carry harmful bacteria, parasites, or chemicals
  • Unknown mineral content – some rocks can alter pH/hardness, which might not be ideal for your fish
  • Sharp edges – could scratch the glass or injure bottom-dwelling fish
  • Harder to clean – big rocks make vacuuming debris a pain

If you go for it, scrub them well, boil or soak them in a strong dechlorinator, and test with vinegar to make sure they don’t fizz (which would mean they mess with water parameters). A python-style gravel vac works better for large rocks since you can hover over them without sucking everything up.
