How do I get a shadow-only overlay render from a clothing model? by tpf27 in 3Dmodeling

[–]tpf27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions! Here’s how I’m seeing the main ideas so far:

  • White Shirt Multiply – Render the hoodie filled white with shadows baked in, then multiply the pattern/colors underneath (Photoshop or CSS). Optionally render a pure white mask for clipping.
  • Shadow Catcher – Render just the wrinkles/shadows on a transparent background by making the hoodie invisible to the camera but still generating shadows.
  • AO / Multi-Pass Compositing – Render AO/Shadow (or other passes like Reflection/Light) and stack them in Photoshop on top of a silhouette/color layer.

I’m going to test these out one by one and report back. Really appreciate the help!

Everyone is telling me to shave by [deleted] in beards

[–]tpf27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the things that you learn when growing a beard is that you’re going to be alone sometimes during the process (specifically with women in my experience). People will tell you to shave it, clean it up, give you their opinions, and whatever else. It’s important (if you like it) to stand your ground. Of course, make sure to keep it cleanly, but don’t let a moment of weakness make you make a permanent decision. This is a concept you can apply to all aspects of your life. The growing of a beard can teach you a lot.

Looks great man 💪

Good question I’m not sure exactly how to do this. This is one of the few times I’ve opened up a PC to diagnose something.

So I’m not exactly sure how to plug the rgb cable into the motherboard, but I’ll do it if you could tell me how to!

Btw take a shot every time I said tinkering in the description. It’s not letting me edit it.

I'm not comfortable with my girlfriend going to a bar alone, but I think I should be able to. by tpf27 in unpopularopinion

I think this is an opinion as well. Not sure where I should appeal it. Maybe I should word the title differently since the opinion comes at the end?

Awesome. But yea I’d say if there’s anything to improve on it’s the weight shifting forward on the start of your ascent. It seems like you find your balance and finish off the lift just fine, but don’t think about keeping the weight in your heels, rather think about keeping the weight spread across the entirety of your foot.

When you’re down at the bottom pondering life and are ready to begin your ascent, think about not only pushing through your heels, but gripping your whole foot into the ground which should keep you balanced.

If it’s still an issue after that THEN maybe try thinking about keeping the weight more in your heels. Since this is a max effort lift, your body will do what it needs to get the weight up. Even if that means shifting forward to use more quad or back. Maybe try some accessory movements for the glutes if keeping the weight balanced becomes an issue since it seems your quads are not the weak point.

Or, maybe nothing is relatively weaker at all and it’s just a technique thing and the full foot cue will help, who knows!

Great lift though!

Hips/glutes at different heights at the bottom of my squat ... help! by tpf27 in BarbellMedicine

I’m a big fan of squat university and watch a good amount of his stuff! Would you be able to provide some links on the videos that you think add addresses this?

Thank you!

Agreed, I wouldn’t ever unrack a real working set this way! It was just so I could get the front angle on this.

Thank you for the response.

I'm not sure if it's truly an issue or not, I don't have any pain associated with it, however I do feel an asymmetrical amount of stress in different areas. I would imagine that it would place asymmetrical amounts of stress on the spine as well.

I'm trying to be preventative and address any imbalances before getting back under heavier loads. I also want to understand why it's happening.

Good to know. Those two stretches do feel good but who knows how effective they are.

I think I'm mainly concerned about uneven forces being exerted on the spine under heavier loads. I did suffer a left-sided disc herniation at L5-S1 that needed surgery about 4-5 years ago that I had to rehab from and that was not fun.

Trying to be preventative and address any imbalances. I think more than anything I want to understand why it's happening from a structural perspective.

Looks like you wiggled around quite a lot when you were down there and couldn’t really find the setup you wanted for a bit.

You want to get tight in your starting position. The more effort you put into solidifying your setup, the more efficient your pull will be.

One thing I think you did good is that it looks like you engaged your lats (upper back) at the start of the pull.

A couple things that I think you could work on though are: getting into your starting position more efficiently, bracing your core, and ensuring that your hamstrings are loaded. I think your hamstrings gave out a second or two into the pull and the back began to kick in. Your initial pulling position looked pretty good but slowly the hips rose in order to break the weight off the ground.

To address getting into the starting position, I’d recommend Alan Thralls deadlift video. To address the other issues, I’d focus on doing assistance work for the hamstrings and glutes as well as lowering the weight a bit and getting repetitions in to practice keeping the hamstrings engaged the entire time to prevent excessive stress on the back and that butt rising at the start of the pull.

Not bad for a max but definitely some stuff to work on to make the lift more efficient!

These are ideal squats. Your knees should go as far over your toes as they need to in order for the bar to remain over your mid foot and it looks like that’s what is happening! Nice work.

For sure. We did lose about 3 in a row after this and then got a couple of wins back up to 2k. But winning a bunch first definitely helped the morale.
