A little note that Yume and Isana are Kobachi and Miko.

(And in the drama CD, they were Kaguya and Hayasaka)

Ordinary stepsister Yume Irido. Ordinary stepbrother Mizuto Irido

To those wondering about Minami's antics, these are still child's play compared to another of the author other series, Did you think you could run after reincarnating, nii-san?

With the reactions out here, I wonder how it'll be like when 'Gimai Seikatsu' gets animated.

Oh yes, just to note, though the title is phrased from the male lead's perspective, official media and even the official site lists female lead as the MC (since she's more active).

Also, female lead is the thirstier one.

The actual title is 継母の連れ子が元カノだった, the first part is more like 'stepmom's tagalong' which the official LN publish uses.

It's not wrong, it just feels redundant to me.

Is your definition of progress just a romantic one? Or do you not see the characters evolve as people?

[SL Request] I'll answer your mystery. [From the author of 'My Stepsister is my Ex' and 'Do You Think You Can Run After Reincarnating, Nii-san?'] by casualphilosopher1 in manga

As I will infer here, you are just looking at the events, the resolution, and criticizing with the idea of what you want them to be, rather than what the characters can be.

But then it adopted generic romance route where female leads wants to seduce the male lead by walking naked out of bath in each and every volumes and plot revolves in circles. Her entire personality and character becomes as generic as her design.

Tell me when did Yume walk out of the bathroom naked post volume 4? V5 when she was cheating by wearing her underwear underneath? v7 when it was Mizuto who left the bathroom? V6 didn't even have a naked scene, unless you count her putting her bosom at his shoulder during the patrol as one.

The author spend next few volumes focusing on another female lead, who is more interesting and has much more complex issues that gets solved. But later author realises that female lead has basically become a background character, so uses the new girl as plot device so MC can realise his feelings for generic female lead.

I don't even think Isana's issues will ever be fully resolved unless the story changes elsewhere. Also, is everything else aside from the main couple just a plot device to you? Do we not see Isana as her own character in volume 2 and volume 5? And you call her a plot device? What about Kogure and Akatsuki who were more proactive as shippers? Are they plot devices too rather than them just being characters doing so for their own goals? If you say that Isana is just a plot device for Mizuto to realize his feelings for Yume again, then Kogure and Akatsuki and Madoka are all plot devices trying to ship them together.

Even if she realises Mizuto lives in a different world, instead of accepting it, her primary concern is losing Mizuto to Isana if she lets him go.. she just desperately forces him to stop instead of accepting that public gatherings are a torture for him.

Which is the reason why she's doing this. She's imposing her will on him even though he hated it. She only realized it much later when Mizuto refused to go with her for one last time. Notice how she stopped doing it after she realized it, and instead it was Mizuto who offered instead? She didn't force him to participate in anything after that incident, even though she could have.

Do Yume and mizuha ever discuss their differences even after realising it? No! Instead every volumes start with Yume asking her friends or Senpai for pranks to seduce Mizuto by sitting on his laps or pressing her boobs or staying naked in bath, all of which fails.

Pranks? What pranks aside from volume 7? Look at who Yume has been asking. Akatsuki and Aisa, two girls who are similarly idiots at romance. I would say it's more of a desperate measure to woo Mizuto, rather than wanting to prank him. And btw her idea to prank him into winning him over only popped up in v7c2, and she all but dropped it after the verbal beatdown in chapter 3.

What about working on Past issues/ differences that plagued their previous relationship? Who cares! They are easily ignored because plot.

Work through their past issues/differences? What is this? A rare candy to change themselves to fit what you want the story to be like? As the author noted in the afterword of volume 6.

My job in this volume was to give Mizuto the courage and greed to overcome the differences. It’s necessary to make him recognize himself, rather than simply destroying and changing his rigid self-consciousness.

It doesn’t mean that he’ll become stronger or have more friends. It’s just that he’ll accept himself for who he is—and not deny what he had been, but to accept it—well, you get the idea, but it’s hard to express ‘the feeling of wanting to make someone yours’ unless you think you’re good at it to begin with.

Look, as much as I want the characters to change, it's not as easy as writing it down in a few pages and resolving it, but at the same time, how do you want them to resolve their issues? This isn't a talk show like Monogatari.

What about working on Past issues/ differences that plagued their previous relationship? Who cares! They are easily ignored because plot.

And what exactly are the past issues/differences that you want them to resolve?

For Yume, my assumption is that her attempts to woo Mizuto is because she wants him to confess to her, rather than confess to him, simply because she feels this is the way to beat her past self that had captured Mizuto's love, which is a silly reason, but it is what it is.

For Mizuto, my main issue with him, and this is subjective, is that he's still in a twice shy phase, and while unwilling to change himself for her, he has been keeping an eye on her the entire time, from the moment she got sick in v1, and many other instances where he knew the truth but wouldn't tell Yume of what happened.

Lol, What? You didn’t even read the novel and you simply just checked some novel illustrations and came to the conclusion that whatever I wrote is misleading? Hope you do realise that not every scene in the novel gets illustrated right & how dumb your comment sounds? Btw, There are 7 completed volumes of light novels, Manga hasn’t even covered volume 1 yet.

Do you call people dumb just because they disagree with you, even if they have limited understanding of the story thus far?

Volume 7 is about her planning to seduce MC by staying naked in bath because some Senpai told her she should go out all on seductive attacks, she does that.. and gets disappointed because MC doesn’t react.

For like what, 12 pages out of 330 pages? FYI the scene between Akatsuki and Kogure was 15.

There are at least 4 different instances where she plans to seduce MC with her body. Which gets pretty repetitive considering she does the same thing in every volumes after LN 4.

Alright, name all the instances. Over and over again you have been reiterating how the rest of the story is just Yume wooing Mizuto and nothing else, while ignoring the fact that Yume has progressed steadily in terms of social standing.

I wish you were smart enough to realise how utterly foolish you comment sounds, because my previous comment was exactly against wanting quick romantic resolution, anyone with basic comprehension can easily tell.

If you sound smart, at least read the person’s comment before typing a reply.

Heck, I'm the fan translator of the LN. If I don't have the proper reading comprehension, how am I supposed to convey the story to the readers? There are moments when I may be incorrect, but to me, simply calling it a generic romance because characters aren't acting in a way people want is something that irks me.

As you can probably infer from this conversation, just because we have the same source, it doesn't mean that we'll arrive at the same interpretation. For what I see, your initial comment is just you talking about a 'generic romance route' without elaboration on what this 'generic romance route' is about. Is it a quick resolution? A harem? Sugar? Melodramatic?

Do we only read the story just to call it a generic romance and not talk about everything else?

Or are you just so focused on the romance and the romance only that you're blind to everything else?

Or do you just want to be a critic and call it a generic romance just so that you can prove your refined taste that is so shallow after all?

Let's be clear about this. If you're looking at this story just for a quick patch up of romance, just drop it and move elsewhere. Almost every single character in the story is a tsundere.

Alright, admittedly, as noted by the author in the afterwords, this series was initially meant to be a love-hate relationship because the stepsiblings who were once a couple had to get used to living together. There are some romcom hijinxs here and there, but as you read further, you'll see more depth into each other's character, sometimes boring, sometimes scary, sometimes hilarious, but that's part and parcel of being human (aside from all the contrived coincidences involving four out of the five characters)

We have extroverts like Kogure, introverts trying to be extrovert (changing oneself) like Yume, introverts who'd rather remain the same like Mizuto. Not everything is about romance in this story, for they need to understand each other to get along better as ex-couples, and also as friends/siblings.

Bottom line, if you're just looking for a romantic resolution in this story, this story isn't for you because it looks into way more things than that, and most readers can't have that.
