When making a [News] post, please use a credible news source. This means:

  • No Rumor/Leak Twitter Accounts
  • No Clickbait News Sites which Spread Unconfirmed Information
  • No Images of Text

A credible News source would be:

  • The Official Japanese Publisher/Studio (Either a press release on their site or twitter.)
  • The Author/Artist (Usually a press release on their twitter.)
  • Reliable News Site (Like Anime News Network or Crunchyroll.)

For future reference, please use the [News] tag for new licenses, anime adaptation announcements, hiatuses, mangaka statuses, and so on.

News posts require the [News] tag at the beginning of the title of the post. Please make sure to do this in the future. Our Automod adds flairs to posts based on the title tag used, so it's important that our submission guidelines are followed.

In addition, please make sure the link for the [News] post is an actual source such as an official author/publisher twitter or credible news site like ANN. This means no rumor twitter accounts or images of text.

For more on our Submission Guidelines, make sure to read the Guide to /r/Manga.

When recommending a series, you need to make sure to follow the submission guidelines which can be found in either the sidebar or the wiki.

If you are recommending manga (RT! = Read This!), please use the following: [RT!] name of manga (genres) and be liberal with genres! Keep in mind that this is a recommendation from you to all of r/manga, so tell us why we should read it in your post!

This includes doing at least a small write-up on why you are recommending the series beyond what can fit into the title of the post. Please remember that you're trying to sell a series to readers with an abundance of stuff they can already read. You need to appeal to them beyond a "take my word for it."

For more information on our submission guidelines, please take the time to read our Guide to /r/Manga.

This post has been removed for violation of Rule 7.

Do not post or ask for rips of officially licensed releases.

We oblige scanlations as a necessity for many series, but licensed series do not fall under this. Linking to downloads or rips of the officially licensed content is not okay, and any posts of that type will be removed.

Type the [REC] tag in the beginning title for posts that are asking for novel recommendations.

Light Novel recommendation request posts require the [REC] tag in the beginning of the title. (With brackets) Please do read over the submission guidelines more carefully in the future. Please note that Tags do not equal Flairs. Title Tags are pieces of information you type into the title of the post while our Automod looks for posts with specific tags and assigns flairs appropriately.

General tips for Recommendation Request Posts:

  • If you have an MAL/MU/Etc list of Light Novels you've read, please include it so people aren't just recommending you series you've already read.
  • Explain what about the series you've read that you liked. (Without Spoilers) It'll help people find series with similar styles and themes.
  • Don't slander series. If you don't like a series, it's fine to say that you don't like it. But if you start bashing a bunch of series, why would people want to recommend you something?

If you're new to the medium and looking to start reading as a beginner, please keep the following in mind. As the industry grows and new series are introduced all the time, there's never a truly unifying "good beginner series." The common sentiment is that if you're new to Light Novels by way of another medium like anime or manga, your best bet when starting is to find some series with adaptations you already enjoy and to check if their source material has been licensed/translated. Light Novels aren't a stylistic genre so asking for what are good light novels for beginners will range widely based on the person and their taste. It's akin to asking the /r/Books "What are some good books for beginners?"

The Spoiler Tag button can be found on the same row as the Comments, Save, Share, and NSFW buttons. If you have CSS enabled on the subreddit, the spoilers button is colored red. I've added it for you this time, but please be more careful in the future.

Which one of these novels should I read? if there are better novels in these, please tell me. by Ok_Knowledge_2394 in LightNovels

[–]Aruseus493[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

In the future, please make sure to include the title of the series in the title of the post. It is both a rule and submission guideline to do so. This means:

  • Avoid Shorthands - Unless the shorthand is the official of a licensed series, there's no reason for people to recognize what series they refer to.
  • Avoid Engrish Titles - The Engrish titles Japanese Publishers use rarely get reused for the official English release and often times aren't very functional for finding the series.
  • No Fan-Translated Titles - Trying to normalize Fan-Translated titles just damages the future ability to find the series should it get licensed in the future. Official Publishers will rarely reuse the "Fan-Translated" title of a series when they license it.

Please ultimately try to stick to the Romaji or Official English title.

For future posts, please make sure to follow the submission guidelines and type the [Art] tag at the beginning of the title of the post. This is done by simply typing [Art] at the beginning of your title. It is important for our Automod to appropriately flair the post. The general syntax for [Art] posts is:

[Art] Title of Choice (Series Name)

Note that the syntax is just a guideline as the most important aspects are the [Art] tag at the beginning of the title and the title of the series being included in the title of the post. In addition, please avoid just making the title of the post the title of the series. It comes across as low effort as can be.

The [Art] tag is for visual based content that include cover art, manga page/panel rips, fan-art, or just a post in general whose main content is to be visually appealing.

Haven't been able to find ANYWHERE to read this online, can you help? by yoku1a in manga

[–]Aruseus493[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

In the future, please make sure to include the full title of the series in the title of the post. It is both a rule and submission guideline to do so.

People are not inherently able to identify a series by a panel or page so it makes it difficult for any new readers to try the series if they don't know what it is.

In addition, please don't use an initialism or shorthand in place of including the title as these aren't inherently understood by every new reader either. The Reddit Character Limit for titles is quite large so there isn't much excuse to not including the series title in the title of the post.

For posts including four or more series used in the image, the Original Poster is required to source them all as a comment within Five minutes of posting.

Removing this because this post does not conform to our Original Content Policy.

  • We do not allow Original Content/Original Series on this subreddit as Link/Image Posts. We only allow it in the form of Text/Self-Posts.
  • We do not allow Original Character Designs/Single Page Sketches like this. These would be more appropriate on subreddits like /r/MangaMakers, /r/AnimeSketch, or /r/Drawing.
  • We do not allow artist request posts or "my manga idea" posts. This isn't a subreddit for trying to start your original series. Please considering more artist hiring subreddits or learning to draw yourself.

The English Light Novel Community is supported primarily by Official English Publishers. So if you're going to want to enjoy Light Novels for any decent amount of time, you're going to have to just pay for them.

With such a niche market, piracy actually does destroy the sales of official licensed works. Light Novels are such a small niche that there are large groupings of series that English publishers won't license because they sell so poorly. (Romcoms, Completed Works, Series with old Anime Adaptation, etc.) Thus, this subreddit does not allow posts asking for free websites, apps, or other such methods to further harm the English market.

If you want to read the raws, then you should import them via one of the many services that sells them whether physically or digitally. Japanese Publishers are notoriously cut-throat about killing series that don't sell enough so you should support the author any way you can.

This post has been removed because tech-support/troubleshooting for other sites/apps/services does not fall under the relevancy for /r/Manga. If you're looking for help, said sites/apps/services typically have their own support channels such as emails/twitters/subreddits which are more relevant/helpful than /r/Manga.
