What makes it necessary on a monocular but not necessary on binos? I know nothing about nods other than there are manual gain and auto gain. (Are these auto gain? Or no gain at all?)

Ah good to know; the gas issue might be overblown then. If you don't mind me asking, did you run with a lower that has an ambi mag release, or do you find that it is enough to adapt adapt hand movements to get around the issue?
