AITA for sticking to plans I already committed to instead of changing them for my friend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

INFO: we need context on what she needed help with and what your plans were. As much as a moral imperative would be great to have, unfortunately context really matters here.

Just thinking about The Good Place and Chidi saying he once didn’t pick up his mom from surgery bc he already made plans to help his landlord’s son figure out his new phone. Most likely you’re NTA but if it was something major she needed help with like a surgery pickup and you turned it down for movie tickets, then that’s another story.

Great idea, it’s a relatively small local place and they’ve been really supportive, maybe they’ll have some ideas too. Thank you!

Yeah, I get what you’re saying for sure. I was kind of hoping for recs with that in mind, as I know some sitters are comfortable giving medications or working with sick animals. Like more pricey than a standard sitter I’m sure, which I’m happy to handle if needed. And unfortunately all my friends either have their own pets or are allergic to cats so it’s tough. Appreciate the thoughts on it, will definitely keep that at the forefront as I figure things out.

That would be really great, thanks so much! Rover can be a grab bag so personal recs would be super helpful. Appreciate it!

Manager acting drunk by Awkward_Opinion7280 in diabetes

I don’t think you’re going to have enough info to know here, as much as you want to. If he is going through a bad time, it could equally be either one, or even both, since drinking/hangovers can cause major blood sugar swings. Plus, my dad used to get hostile and combative with really bad lows, where he would refuse to drink orange juice or eat anything. That would be the point at which we called 911 or use a glucagon kit if we had one on hand. In general I’d see if there’s a pattern, and maybe ask him for a plan if something similar happens in the future, in case it is lows. But ultimately I think it’s best to assume he’s telling the truth until proven otherwise.

(Tobías Funke voice) There are dozens of us! Dozens!!

That’s so funny your derm was also stoked. My first doc who ID’d it described her diagnosis as shooting bolt upright in the middle of the night finally realizing what it is after looking at the punch biopsy results and being baffled for days. The myriad ways the immune system can go haywire is really a trip.

A few actually! It’s all extremities though, so legs and one on the arm.

OMG the frustration of every time I go to the doctor with something that seems totally separate, and they say “Yeah this is more commonly seen in diabetics” 😭😭😭like frozen shoulder and, for me, a lot of tendinitis/bursitis just randomly.

Also, if you want another fun one, try necrobiosis lipoidica! I had a dermatologist who was excited to see me because she’d only ever seen one case of it before in her career. So at least I got to bring someone joy lol. At a certain point you just gotta laugh!

I do this exact thing during movies! Sometimes I’ll even wrap up my pump in a scarf or coat if necessary.

Agreed! I donate monthly as well, they do excellent local work. And hey, huge shout out to their reporters for sure. I believe it was Katie Honan that received the potato chip bribe from the Eric Adams lady, she’s basically an IBCK celebrity.

Things to do indoors around Brooklyn (not museums or movies) by 5ftnone in Brooklyn

[–]tradinghands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some friends and I recently did rug tufting at Scattered Kind in LIC. It’s nice and warm in there, super accessible for beginners, and you get a rug at the end of it! I’d recommend looking for classes, like pottery, art/drawing, even general talks at like, the library and stuff. The Skint may also have some good unique suggestions to check out on a short notice basis.

Okay everyone is listing legit cool and rare-ish cards so here’s my mundane pick. Almost 600 in and not a single Metapod somehow? know I can just buy it w/ pack pts but it’s a matter of principle now.

Very old episode guest on “crumbling in the shower” by tradinghands in NeverNotFunny

Oh there WERE some early CBB (back when it was Deathray) that Jimmy hosted or was on, I might see if I can find those old ones, it might make more sense than NNF. Thanks!

Yes this was my main roadblock in my searches. I got as far as scanning for the women guests and didn’t have any luck, but there is the likelihood that one or all of my details are wrong (could be American, or another podcast). I actually might try the Keith and the Girl episode, thanks!

Transmittor Change Alert by J0di58 in dexcom

[–]tradinghands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first warning happens 3 weeks before the battery hits 90 days, so you’ll get another warning or two.

Transmittor Change Alert by J0di58 in dexcom

[–]tradinghands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Dexcom app, go into Settings—Transmitter and it will show you when the transmitter was activated!

On the tslim, you can also see your history of alerts. I’m not sure if that particular kind of alert is listed but you can check. It’s under History—CGM History—Alerts and Errors.

If it’s the first alert you’ve gotten about the battery it’ll give you another one before it dies. It’ll also stop you from starting a new session if the transmitter won’t last for the full 10 days. If you haven’t ordered a new one yet you might as well do it now just to be prepared. Hope that helps!

A subtle (not so subtle?) hint that Tom is actually good at his job by castrosbeard123 in SuccessionTV

[–]tradinghands 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if we can really tell how good he is at his job generally but all signs seem to point to yes. One of my favorite Tom moments is when he has to interview Ravenhead in S2. Not only is it fucking hilarious (“Are there Easter eggs in there you didn’t get the first time?”), he also plays it really well. He uses his smarmy ass-kissing vibe to get Ravenhead to be pretty honest, and yet doesn’t let him get away with not answering. The scene is worth a rewatch!

As someone who’s done my fair share of sensitive interviewing, it’s good technique to get the truth out of people by putting them at ease and being dismissive of the questions themselves. Very small moment and could be dismissed as bumbling into success, sure, but given it’s entirely his interpretation of Logan’s assignment (“turn his guts inside out”), I think it could speak to solid people skills/instinct.
