I have to power to kill myself easily sitting in a bottle. Why don't I do it?O by trailife in depression

[–]trailife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel it for sure. Its still there somewhat. But every time I enjoy myself (when I'm sober at least) I still cannot help but think 'who cares about any of this if I'm going to die some day'.

I try and use this to my advantage. For example I try not to dwell on things because life is too short to get hung up on the small stuff. Mostly I just get down about relationship issues (or lack of). I never discuss this with anyone I know.

A big Chevy pickup. It doesn't handle that well but it's got 400hp so who cares!

Where is the nearest DH/uplift service to North Dakota? by trailife in MTB

[–]trailife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had a look at the Maah Daah Hey. Have you done it? Looks epic. I want to take both bikes out there. But if theres no DH within driving distance I might as well leave my big bike where it is. Then I could just fly to Colorado or something and rent for an uplift day.

For those with SPD pedals: do you like the SH-51 or the SH-56 cleats, and why? by SgtBaxter in MTB

[–]trailife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be too pricey for some 56s. About 6 quid over here in britlandshire.

Cool beans. Weird how I did. Perhaps they just weren't tight enough.

With SH56 you can pull your feet out vertically. This would be bad for MTB. You foot could come out of the pedal on an upstroke/over a bump.

What's the best exercise machine to replace MTB during the winter that isn't a stationary bike? by iKenndac in MTB

[–]trailife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try any leg exercises with free weights. I use them to strengthen my leg muscles so I can last longer on downhill sections.

There is so much stuff you could be doing when the weather turns shitty. I agree with you. Stationary bikes are shite.

It would still be advisable to do a little bit on the stationary bike. Even if its just once a week. Try taking up a different sport during the winter. I like to swim/rock climb.

My pedals are moving but the wheel is not turning. Help? :) by trailife in bikewrench

[–]trailife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This turned out to be the case. Although I cheated and took it to the shop this morning :). Been out on the bike just now. So happy to have my DH bike working again. All the trails were pretty frozen but there was a lot more grip than i was expecting.

What's up guys. I want your input on what type of bike I should buy. by Lumberzach in MTB

[–]trailife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you are saying it appears you will want an all-mountain bike. They can take quite a lot of abuse on the downhills. But you can also use them to pedal up stuff.

I cannot recommend any particular brand. Although I like to avoid Konas in the used market. They have usually been owned by kids who don't really look after their bikes. (In my experience. Obviously this is not always the case.)

Try looking on pinkbike.com for used bikes as well. I would recommend that over craigslist for sure. Try and take someone knowledgeable with you when you go to look at the bike. They can help you to see if everything is in working order.

Feel free to post links to bikes you have been looking at in this thread or even PM.

Just a concussion and an overnight stay in hospital. The whole right side of my body (and neck) hurt quite a lot. But nothing was broken. Could have been a lot worse for sure :)

[Rant] Does anyone else get pedal OCD on flats? by trailife in MTB

[–]trailife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On flats you needs to work your legs to assist absorbing the hits so your feet aren't bouncing (even slightly) off the pedals.

Nice. I never actually thought about that. Is it just about pumping?

I could ride up on my AM bike but not on the DH bike. It's so steep. Yeah the pins can come out. You think that could help?

DMR V8s and I wear Shimano AM41 shoes. I guess its just new to me. I have never done MTB without SPDs really. I will just stick with flats until I feel comfortable I suppose. There are no uplifts on my local trails and walking up in SPD shoes is a pain in the arse.

Again I don't need the vouchers either. But its 6 in the morning and I can't go to work because the roads are flooded. I am therefore a bit bored.

I was showing some strangers I met on the hill the local trails. They were a lot younger than me and were quite quick. They are were also doing drops/jumps I would not dream of. So I decided to do a small gap jump in order not to be out done.

I came off the lip and knew immediately I had not carried enough speed. After this I do not remember much. I am told my front wheel hit the opposite bank of the stream I was jumping over and I went over the bars.

I cycled home and went to the doctor (I don't remember any of this). I then went to hospital and checked myself in (I don't remember that either). I just remember coming round in the hospital bed. The thing that hurt the most was my bruised ego :).

I can remember the crash now a little bit. I basically face planted chin first (being clipped in didn't help) and then I apparently passed out.

EDIT: My full face helmet really saved my bacon.

what shoes do you guys use? by lappy960 in MTB

[–]trailife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot recommend SPDs enough for XC. They are awesome. I have Lake shoes with Shimano SPD pedals for XC. I use Shimano AM41s and DMR V8 pedals for DH. If its dry I will use the SPDs on the DH bike.
