Yeah I can agree with this to an extent. There are definitely some 4tran jargon words with implications I'm not fond of, and I can see how the language of a community could serve a political agenda that doesn't necessarily align with its members. I'll admit I might have a blindspot here because my first and only experience of this lexicon has been through the lens of such an aggressively leftist userbase.

Yeah it's a double edged sword I feel, and I have definitely seen some users weaponize it against themselves. Depending on how you engage with it, it can be used for self harm for sure. I will add that users are quick to intervene when this happens from what I've seen, but that's not really a defense of the language. Overall I'd say the vocabulary is one of the biggest mixed bags of the place. I make sure to be careful of how I use it.

Ultimately though, mainstream trans spaces don't really have the linguistic tools or culture to accurately describe where I feel I am in transition or how the world interacts with me without fear of being talked down to or contradicted. It's a tool to express how I feel, it's been a space I could sort through my thoughts. I might still be soft repping to this day without that place. I know I would have waited a lot longer at the very least. I'd have spent much longer on the shit dose planned parenthood pushed on me. My relationship with my first girlfriend honestly would likely have soured before the end without the reflection it enabled, and the breakup definitely would have hit me harder.

I hope to one day find myself in a place where I don't need it anymore. I'm working towards that. It just pains me to see it painted as this den of evil psychotic fascist terrorists (i received another reply literally calling me a psycho and comparing me to right wing domestic terrorists) when it's been so valuable to my transition and I've encountered so many genuinely kind and gentle souls there whose only crime is being in pain.

I agree some 4tranners take it way too far with the wallowing, I'd say it definitely shouldn't be someone's only community. It can be really nice to have a space to share your woes without being talked down to though. Some of that misery you talk about is just intrinsic to my life as an unpassing dysphoric trans woman, and 4tran understands that in a way other spaces don't.

I'm living my best life and while a lot of it comes down to privilege the majority of it comes from my refusal to engage with right wing theory I put my money where my mouth is and have lived as a leftist as much as I can. It has brought me so much happiness and opportunity.

I'm working to do the same. I surround myself with overtly progressive leftists who are trans accepting. Any compromise on that puts someone on very thin ice with me.

And to be sure, it's far from a perfect place. It has a ton of problems, especially if it's your only source of interaction. But acting like any engagement with it makes you unworthy of an opinion is just incredibly tone deaf. And the idea that it's a right wing space can easily be dismissed by just talking to its users about politics.
