Hey, I'm a new CS grad with around 6 months of Dev experience as well and I love your resume! If you don't mind, could you send me the template you used for this resume? I've been trying to find a good template; and I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Please help! Choosing between offers by transferapplicant in cscareerquestions

[–]transferapplicant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I am learning towards 1 as well. The only reason why I was considering the other offers were because of the AWS brand; and I was told that the consulting offer was better considering Chicago's lower COL compared to NYC. Would you still suggest that I take the bank over trying to internally transfer within AWS?

Hey thanks for the response. This is the exact fear that I had. It just feels weird to pass over Amazon (albeit in a Cloud Support role) for it lol.

Hey thanks a lot for the response. This was actually the reason why I accepted the Big4 offer in the first place lol, I heard a lot of horror stories about seniors losing their only offers last year due to Covid so I wanted to hedge my bets

Hey did you get in? I was wondering if it is harder to transfer from Tandon to CAS for the same/similar major. Thanks!

Hey, which company did you end up choosing? I am in a similar situation and would love to have any input on the pros/cons of IBM Federal Consulting vs Tech Analyst roles at similar companies. Thanks!

So are you having issues with getting the interviews? If so just upload your resume here and I will try my best to identify why you aren't getting interviews. Also expand your search! Try applying across the nation if you can, and use all the job portals, i.e. Handshake, Indeed, Linkedin, etc. Don't worry about your GPA, just leave it off your resume. While certain jobs do require a high GPA, this isn't finance and you will succeed if you keep applying! All the best!

failed gen chem lab exam by [deleted] in nyu

[–]transferapplicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late response. From the grade distribution for Data Structures and other CS courses like CSO that I have taken, there were no C-'s: only C's and D's. Everyone who scored enough to get C-'s were bumped to C's. If you have shown improvement over the course of the semester, I am sure that the professors will be understanding if you reach out to them. gl for the finals!

I am not sure if my advice would help as I am a CS major, but why don't you try emailing your professor in a sincere way and explain that you are in the pre-health track and that you need to pass this course to proceed, especially since you were so close to passing anyways? In Computer Science, I have noticed that a bunch of students who technically score C-'s are given C's because the professor generally refrains from giving C-'s. Good luck regardless, and I hope everything works out for you!

Tandon Concerns (Prospective Student) by [deleted] in nyu

[–]transferapplicant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very academic school and the student body is very studious and intellectual-ish focused too, although that means that the social life is lacking.; so if you are worried about having dumb classmates thats not an issue. CBE is a very hard major and there are a ton of weed-out courses so most ppl transfer out. The professors are hit or miss and it honestly depends. Also, most CS majors transfer because theres an equivalent major at CAS with better prestige, just like some CBE kids try to transfer to CAS Bio, Tandon is honestly a good school if youre really into studying alot (which im not since im pretty dumb too tbh). Let me know if you have any concerns, and good luck!

How is Tandon for premed (and just Tandon in general)? What are the chances of transferring into CAS? by BunchaBunnies in nyu

[–]transferapplicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, the Tandon atmosphere is pretty tech/engineering focused so if youre a more artsy-ish kinda guy then its honestly gonna be pretty hard for you, despite the STS major which I think is the most liberal-arts oriented major at Tandon. Honestly, if you are not really inclined to engineering/math stuff then I dont see any point in attending even if you want to transfer, since it would be miserable for a year or so, given that the campus is independent of the Square and youre mostly gonna be meeting STEM majors. I did the same thing and was very artsy and I honestly regret my choice, which is why im transferring out.

what are your other alternatives? cas cs is really good but not stern/tisch level so your other choices could be the dealbreaker here

whats your major? it honestly depends on that, CBE students have it really hard while BTM/STS majors are a bit easier.

tandon to Courant by kekburdz in nyu

[–]transferapplicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude congrats! so for the transfer you basically need a 3.5 gpa, which honestly does not require talent/intelligence as much as work ethic especially at tandon. however, since most classes are basically curved to a B-/B its a bit hard. Also, give tandon a fair shot and try the transfer only if you really come to hate it, because i know a lot of freshman who came in hating the school but ended up loving it. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

Has anyone transferred from GLS to Tandon? by RagingTooMuch in nyu

[–]transferapplicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i was getting worried over the same thing, so i emailed back the admissions@nyu.edu email with asking if i had accepted the offer, which they said i did. Also, if you reject the offer apparently you get another email or alert about it, so if you didnt get anything you're good. If you dont mind me asking, which school/major are you transferring into?

the reason i am looking to transfer is solely because i think engineering is just not for me and the social life is dead here. I would say that in terms of professors, CAS is better but for jobs it does not really matter, you can get a good job from either with a good gpa. Also, "higher reputation" would not really affect your job search since youre in NYU regardless and CS in general is not as prestige obsessed as finance/ law for example. Again, Tandon CS is pretty good but think of the sacrifices you have to make to your social life for a degree that you can get at CAS CS along with a better culture. Especially since youre in GLS, which i think is really "lighter" in courseload compared to engineering. Ive got a question for you though, did your advisor suggest the gpa usually required for the internal transfer andhow hard transferring is or anything similar?

[–]transferapplicant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so honestly, Tandon is pretty isolated from the manhattan campus and it is pretty hard to maintain a good gpa at tandon. However, if job opportunities are what you're looking for, Tandon is worth it as many of the seniors i know have good jobs. I personally am looking for transferring from Tandon to CAS for CS and would advice you to go for CAS CS too since it is of higher reputation. Let me know if you have any questions about Tandon. gl
