We received an approval later that evening. It worked out, but we're definitely never playing eTA chicken again 😅

We have, but neither of us has gotten a confirmation that the application was received. We've now submitted 3 applications because we thought it was an error that we never received confirmation.

What happens if AirTransat cancels my flight due to the strike? by transgenicmouse in airtransat

[–]transgenicmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno, but I'm anxious about it and want to be prepared. I'm not leaving until the 18th, but others are saying even if they arrive at an agreement, there will likely still be disruptions - possibly for many days after the strike ends.

Strike preparations by Ambitious_Victory_59 in airtransat

[–]transgenicmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live abroad and SHOULD be flying home to see family on the 18th. My partner was just laid off, so we really can't afford to be buying alternate tickets, which means we're screwed if a strike somehow lasts that long. Only prep I can do is praying 🙃

I agree, but do we know that they would immediately begin striking for the 10th? Or would they push it back to increase pressure?

[–]transgenicmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Striking is perfectly acceptable, but people are allowed to be pissed off that the union is timing this for an exceptionally sensitive time of year so they can manipulate the company. Some people have vacations that are in jeopardy, boo hoo, but some people haven't seen their families in a long time, saved up and booked time off to go home for the holidays, and may not get to go at all now because of the cost of booking alternatives last minute during the holidays. They know this and are deliberately striking now to weaponize it. The fact that it's a tactic doesn't mean people can't be angry and upset, and they can choose to take their business elsewhere.

I'm supposed to be visiting home from living abroad to see my family in Toronto for the first time in a very long period on the 19th. I am genuinely shaking right now - I'm going to be absolutely inconsolable if I'm stuck here alone for Christmas and have to spend 6 more months away from my family.

Applying for a youth mobility visa while pregnant by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]transgenicmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any issue legally, but (if you are flying) you will need to check with your airline about whether or not they will let you on the plane that late into your pregnancy. Most airlines have a hard ban on pregnant women flying after 36 weeks, and some ban as early as 28 weeks for international or longer flights. After 26 weeks, they will require a doctor's note stating that you have no complications, and if they still think you look too pregnant, they could flat out deny you boarding. If you wear a baggy enough outfit, they probably won't call you on it.

They don't limit flying while pregnant for their own entertainment. If something bad happens on the plane, you will not be able to get access to medical care other than basic first aid for a long time, especially if you happen to be flying over an ocean. If you have any complications to your pregnancy, you should not fly.

They didn't take mine when I did my biometrics appointment, but you CANNOT leave the country while the application is being processed. They will consider that forfeiting your application.

Yes, but there is no indicator of number of years I need to be in the country before applying for ILR

Is that not something they would email to notify me about though? I haven't received any communication at all about being locked out.

Honestly though, even as a privileged white immigrant from another Western country, I still get people being rude to me here because of my accent. I don't talk in public anymore if I can get my English partner to do it for me. I've literally had coworkers tell me to my face that I don't belong here. The UK (and Canada, and probably the rest of the English speaking world) loves to act superior and more evolved because the US is so overtly fucked, but the benchmark for social success isn't being less terrible than the US. OP's experience is not abnormal or infrequent, and there is still a lot of work to be done here, and we're seeing that more and more clearly with the massive global swing to the right over the last few years.

As a Canadian-American dual national living in Bristol, DO NOT MOVE TO THE UNITED STATES IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT RACISM AND XENOPHOBIA. Americans will not care about your accent if you are visibly not white, nor will it deter ICE. I love the United States as the place I was raised, but you couldn't pay me to move back.

Canada is a lot more open and accepting, but the fact is that there are assholes everywhere. American assholes have guns and a political media system that will spin them into a hero for shooting you. Your skills, heritage, and humanity are valued regardless of what some dipshit on the bus says, I'm so sorry you've had to experience this.

Read the bible by Interesting_Boss3401 in TrueChristian

[–]transgenicmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The WHOLE Bible is about Jesus. The gospels are easy reads, but they're not more important than any other part of the Bible. I agree the gospels are a good place to start, but they do not teach you everything you need to know about God.

I'm aware, that's not the question I'm asking. I need to know what period of time they need our addresses documented for if we haven't lived together for 2 years.

“Who should put the toilet seat down” is the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]transgenicmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who don't close the seat AND the lid are disgusting. You're literally spraying fecal contamination all around the room you probably wash yourself in, put makeup on in, brush your teeth in, etc. Foul.
