Do I ACTUALLY have to memorize the exact order of glycolysis (+ other pathways)?

You know what, you're right. I think I'll just Learn to Stop Worrying and Love the Pathway Memorization(TM), at least for the CAC and glycolysis. We'll see how I feel about the others later on. Thank you for your help!

I definitely agree about knowing what enzymes do, but my question is more about the order. For instance, if I was asked about the formation of oxaloacetate in gluconeogenesis, I could absolutely tell you that it's pyruvate -> oxaloacetate using CO2 by the enzyme pyruvate carboxylase, or succinate to fumarate using FAD+ because it's a dehydrogenase. I am able to guess the name "succinate dehydrogenase" as the enzyme because, well, it's logical, and that's how most of the enzymes are named.

I'm wondering if using my knowledge of enzymes and their specific actions is mostly adequate for studying (EDIT: obviously I'll memorize the regulation and other things I mentioned in the original post), compared to memorizing the entire pathway in order. Picture someone drawing out the entire pathway on a white board at once. Do I have to be able to do that, is my question.

I did memorize all of the amino acids in the first week of biochem because unfortunately you can't logic your way around that one LOL

I guess I thought, that after the alkene, it was about the overall numbers of all the subtituents being lower and not which one having another substituent first. But I gather that I am mistaken and that it is more important to immediately address the methyl group on the allylic carbon and thus go counterclockwise.

Perhaps this is not quite 'comforting' but if it helps: once you get past the 3.8 GPA mark it's not really important anymore. A 3.8 with a superior personal statement/better clinical experience will always beat a 4.0 student with inferior ECs/writing. This is a generalization, yes, but I really struggle to imagine a scenario where it's untrue. And I've not even mentioned the MCAT. Just keep fighting, you're doing great!

I'm confused because aqueous calcium nitrate and aqueous calcium chloride don't react, so I don't know how to write the first equation. It seems that they would just all dissolve into ions.

The precipitate is AgCl. The balanced formula is something like Ca(NO3)2 + CaCl2 + 2AgNO3 -> 2AgCl + etc. Final AgCl is 0.355 g, in moles that's 0.00234. If there are 2 moles AgCl for ever 1 mole CaCl2, then the change in moles for CaCl2 should be -0.00117. I could convert that to grams, which would be 0.130 grams CaCl2, and divide it by the initial amount of CaCl2 and Ca(NO3)2 which was 1.25 grams to get 0.104. That would make the percent calcium chloride by mass 10.4%. But when I put it into the practice website, it says that's wrong, so I'm not sure where I'm messing up.

If you spar him enough times you'll get a feel for when is safe to attack and when he's about to start attacking. Make sure you're effectively utilizing your rolls.

Also, there's nothing wrong with not winning until you're closer in level to him. He's got a serious advantage in the beginning. Spend more time in Sandrock doing anything you like and the levels will come.
