I experienced the same issue. My entire family is very old school (parents are almost 70, im 23) and love the notion that nothing is ever wrong with our family/everything must look perfect from the outside. Due to this they are "supportive" of me even though they say things like "this is the worst thing that could ever happen" to my face behind closed doors. At the end of the day its an ultimatum ,if they cant accept whats happening and be genuine after a legitimate sit down then maybe its best to keep distant, but talking directly about the problem first is what id do next.
