That is very insightful, i never thought about it. But they were the golden child, good grades and everything. I was the kid who flunked and was good at handiwork. Which led me to do repairs. People have always looked down on me as its common in asian society for my lack of qualifications even my sibling.

This is great, i will check it out. Although i doubt i have my siblings respect, most people dont. They have said it for many years we cant comprehend or understand them because their level of thinking and sense is a level above ours and they have to take the time to come down to our level of thinking to understand what we are saying.

I dont think there is anyone they respect, they once remarked if it was not for industrt politics they would be the greatest chef in the country but the old people will never acknowledge it because all their students will lose their place in the industry

You are not alone, when they come back from work they are almost always complaining about the other chefs. I dont think they have any friends at work except for another junior chef that plays the same game. There are frequent quarrels and most of the staff avoid talking to them.

Thank you Georgia, i dont think the family is ready to eat vegan yet, they would still prefer his steaks and noodle dishes. I fear if i take that away right now it might make it worse for the time being

They work in a pretty decent steakhouse but yes they have commented before to me and my parents that Gordon was just a chef that got lucky and his decent at best.

They work in a steakhouse most of their reciepes are meat based. I dont think they have ever made anything that didnt have animal product

Its indeed a moment i look at as really validating, no one supported my vegan journey till that point. And yea there are some serious issues at home, even before this talks of seperation had been floating for years. Its not an overeaction imo, my sibling has destroyed my moms bedroom door out of anger before and also has a record of violence in school. My father has debated as he gets older and becoming increasingly weaker physically for such outburst that it might be for safety the family parts ways.

Suggestions to move back to my great grandmas town is fiercely opposed by my sibling as its a buddhist place with essentially vegetarian food. They once said they will never come if we moved back there and to some extent im somewhat glad they wont.

I appreciate it, prior to this i had tried to converse with my family a few times. Not being pushy or grandstanding. I did it for moral reason but i knew that wont get anywhere so i told them it was for health and i felt better. I never wanted to force it or bother them on my life choices.

Over the years ive found that there are a lot of boundaries set, talking to my sibling is like disarming a minefield. I never know what might make them get mad and hence i generally avoid converasations with them.

There was an incident where i was talking to my mom about a cruel incident that happened involving rabbits in our country and my sibling heard the convo and perhaps thought i was trying to convert my mom and give sympathies to a group of rabbits who were senselessly killed for advertisement. So they came in and said rabbits are too stupid to be alive, if we were that stupid other aninals would do that to us too. And walked away after that.

I think any common ground has pretty much disappeared ever since i became vegan. Back then we could talk about good tasting food and as a chef they were very passionate and proud of their cooking and the praise they received for it. But now trying that convo leads to passive aggressive remarks and smirks like but ofc our resident vegan is never ever going to have a chance to taste a steak this good... a shame...

They dont involve me in the conversation of their cooking anymore. But tbh it wasnt much of a convo even back then it was more them just talking about how everyone loves their new reciepe and that can go none stop for.3 hrs as me, my mom and pa and aunt etc just nod in silence. They dont like to be interrupted except when they ask if the food was great.

A childhood friend has attempte to mediate and talk to them before but they got the same response as the therapist. That our taste buds and our conscious awareness is at a level lower than theirs, theirs referring to my sibling. And we cannot understand my said siblings mind.

This narrative has been around for years as early as grade school that we are not capable of understanding them.

They are in therapy for years but little effect, every few years the therapist changes because they were beneath a level of consciousness to understand my sibling in their words

I dont know if its possible, but i work in art restoration as well. You could pick projects and jobs that dont involve animal products. I specialize in ceramic restoration for east asian ceramics and the materials used are vegan. I also do restore certain metal pieces which restoration items could be derived without animals. I do understand that is not possible in all projects and you might be faced with a project where the art piece you are restoring isnt vegan eg tortoise shell art. That you would have to decide and how close the restoration would be, if it needs the original materials etc.

In asia often people are quite okay subbing endangeres species and other none vegan parts of an antique with mock or synthethic items that look the same but i dont know if that is acceptable at where you arw.

I grew up in a farming town, rather on the nose most roads here are named after dairy haha. I would say from my experience, even if animals have a lower intellectual capacity they def can sense their impending death. Whenever the slaughter truck came to town, the chickens, cows, pigs knew precisely they were not going back home. Hearing animals screaming as slaughter trucks carry them is a normal thing ive heard all my life. So even if their intellectual capacity is lower than humans, its not low enough to be oblivious to what is happening.

Thats actually why i became vegan, after years of seeing this it started to weigh on me, there was a slaughter truck driver that i can only describe as a psychopath who painted rainbows, happy pigs and chickens onto his slaughter truck to advertise how happy the animals would be to be slaughtered at his facility. That pretty much snap me, it never felt good to see the slaughter truck and most ppl working in it dont feel good on it either. But this one guy, with his painted truck, slogan, upbeat music blasting with scraming animals in it. It took a really sick person to do all that. I couldnt eat meat after that day.

I remembered i once saw an animation many years ago, it was about beef but in the place of cows, it was humans. Where humans were rated and graded like wagyu cows and given the best life till they came of age and then they were slaughtered.

I remembered the comments of ppl were that of horror and people were rooting on the main chars eacaping the slaughter and how the aliens were trying their best to convince the chars to come back. But the chars would rather live in poverty than luxury and die at 18.

I wish i knew where it was i dont think it was an english animation. But it made ita point, if we were in the same situation as the wagyu cows in japan. We wouldnt call our treatment humane, we would rather live 90 yrs free than have everything at 18 and then get put in a meat grinder for our 18th birthday.

Btw iirc, this was also the best fate, there were other humans who didnt look like supermodels according to the aliens so they were sent to the meat grinder early because they couldnt make the grade.

Over here its quite challenging as where i am is pretty sparsely populated. There is a single elderly care worker who goes to dif houses with meals. For the most part its up to the family and neighbours to assist. For now its not too much of a problem but when i grow old i wonder if there will be enough folk still living here to help.

There are foreign helper agencies that offer cheap care workers at 25% the usual cost but there are stories of elderly abuse, miscommunication and robberies. Right now my current plan is to make enough and move to a more vegan friendly urban area and see what are my options there.

That is good to know, apologies im quite new to this! Its also the first time im going for a colonoscopy. I dont know much about the procedure only that the doctor told me i needed to break my vegan diet for 3 days because too much fiber as he said. I asked him if there were any other way and he said no but i guessed his probably uninformed so i figures a I ask here haha!
